Hang on. Looking at the PACER web site, I don't see any order that wikileaks be shut down. I see an order that certain content be removed.

On the Mars one I disagree. Maybe a staggering stride, but certainly at a staggering cost, and after ridiculous boondoggles like the shuttle and the ISS, its hard to get an appetite for another visionary manned space extravaganza.
From what I've read, vastly more and better space science can be done per dollar with unmanned vehicles. The argument for sending people seems to be mostly about the thrill of it all. I wouldn't discount that motivation, but all you have to do is go to the websites for any of the ongoing missions-- Cassini/Huygens, the various Mars orbiters and landers, and (one day) New Horizons-- and look at the breathtaking pictures that they send back every day. To me, they are vastly more inspiring than it was to watch Alan Sheppard practice his swing.

Funny, over at firedoglake there's a comment thread with several posters accusing Begala of "blaming the victim", and calling him (Begala, not Cheney) human slime and such. What the hell are they talking about?

Aw geez. It has been such a thrill to see a non-doormat democrat get some notice. Whatever the calculations of this particular race, please don't quit the game altogether.

Off-topic nitpicking:
Does that book really say that filtering out vocal frequencies above 500 hz leaves nothing but a low pitched hum? 500 is somewhere near B flat above middle C, so I'd think you at least get a good mid-treble hum.
Now back to the political discussion....

I prefer the jon stewart theory (first expressed in another context) -- it'd just been too long since his last drink of puppy blood.

Some are janitors. Some are administrators. Some are secret agents. Some are people who are there to fix the leaky window on the 2nd floor.
Granted there would be no criminal referral if she wasn't covert, the courts have looked it already, etc.--but I'm still wondering about this. If I have sensitive information that I wouldn't want to get into the hands of the CIA, I wouldn't give it to someone who is known to work there, even if she assures me that she's just the janitor.
Can someone provide more detail about the meaning of "covert", and how (and why) it could apply to someone publicly working at the agency?Posted at July 24, 2005 1:00 PM in response to Incompetence on Senate Intel

For those of us who may never have heard of the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, why should we particularly mistrust its polling?
