• Unless Wolfson is deliberately trying to sink the Democrats this year he should just shut!

What makes you think he isn't?

Wait - I thought everything in Iraq was great. So he's ALREADY in a good place!

  • Actually, George W. Bush’s church has taken the following stance:

    http://gc2006.org/legislation/view_leg_detail.aspx?id=252&type=CURRENT

Resolved, That the 75th General Convention call upon all Episcopalians as an act of penitence, to oppose and resist through advocacy, protest, and electoral action the continuation of the war in Iraq, and encourage the President and Congress to take proactive steps to end our participation as soon as possible.

Why doesn't he follow the church’s teachings, or quit? (Yes, I know he doesn't really go to an Episcopal church, but he's sure ready to tell us what God thinks.)

  • I particularly like this line from The Pod Man:

"f [Bush] were to do so [attack Iran], it would be as a last resort, only after it had become undeniable that neither negotiations nor sanctions could prevent Iran from getting the bomb, and only after being convinced that it was very close to succeeding."

And where would he get this information, if the intelligence community can't be trusted to give real data? (Oh, I forgot - he'll get it from commentators who've never been to Iran, don't speak Farsi and have never been in the military!)

  • "We should hear from Gen. David Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, in September and then announce a timetable for shifting the nature of U.S. operations in Iraq, withdrawing combat troops as the surge comes to an end and turning to special operations and support of Iraqi troops."

You can't be that naive. Petraeus's report will be "stay the course forever"; it's why he was chosen for the job. He'll announce that The Surge is working and must be continued (why stop such a successful effort?) and that we have to stay and "fix" Iraq because we've messed it up so badly so far. (That's the latest neo-con excuse.) There will be bipartisanship only to the extent that Democrats do what Bush wants.

  • Well, there's a large group of former Republican senators and representatives now floating around Washington.

Or did they all become lobbyists?

My real guess, though I suspect he only has a very outside chance, would be Mike DeWine, former Ohio senator. Real rightwing (he was one of the strong anti-Miers people) but he has no ties to GWB that I know of.
