  • Not to you personally Trailerville. My comment was a "letter" open to all, but actually addressed to "RobbyLove".

  • Robby Baby, No, she didn't mock community organizers.

What she did do was compare her "real responsibilities" as mayor of a town of 7,000 with being a community organizer. A far fairer comparison would have been her exerience in Wasilla against Obama's as State Senator from a very large and complex urban district in a tough and populous state. She avoided the fair comparison directly and went on to imply that legislators, state and federal, D's and R's alike, have no real significant reponsibility. I'll bet you bought it, too.

Palin is a gimmick. Effectively, she's hijacked the political discourse, taking us away from issues and onto personalities. No way in hell anyone whose head is not bent around already could possibly assert that these two resumes (Obama's and Palin's) reflect accomplishment of near equal weight.

As long as she remains in the spotlight, steers clear of excessive verbal gaffs, and is free of any prolonged exposure of scandalous past activities, her nomination should be regarded as successful. A successful political gimmick, that is! One designed to motivate the winger-base and take both campaigns away from what we have experienced for the past seven and a half plus years! (Sadly, the joke is on all Americans.)

Furthermore, I suspect that even folks like you will come to realize, before November, the gimmickry here and how it has driven McCain's VP choice. Even though, I doubt it will change your "old politics" inspired voting decisions.

  • Talk about a double standard! If Obama had made as troubled and as weak a choice for VP as McCain did, the press would be all over Obama like a cat on a three-legged mouse.

The election would be, for most practical purposes, o-v-e-r.

  • "The trouble with we Democrats, we're reality based." (the Big Dog)

Generally, when we make a mistake we start backing away from it, and fairly quickly.

The other guys tend to strongly characterized their worst errors as sound decision making. And, a huge segment of the press stands by to back them up. This is why Sara Palin is likely to stay on the ticket.

On those who think, that Palin's experince is a deep as Obama's: Can they read a resume? Can they read? They seem to be functioning somewhere below the level of Dilbert's boss.

But, again, we live in a world of spin. Spin by a small, controlling and narrow group. Note, it's the more petty Palin issues that are getting the reportage, crowding out the more important ones, and setting the stage for their ultimate dismissal.

  • jts,

Are you trying to tell us, we shouldn't underestimate Republican cunning?

  • The more I hear the punditry expound on Sara Palin as VP nominee, the more I'm reminded of the baseball umpire who insisted the pitches weren't balls or strikes until he called 'em.

Palin is a manifestly weak choice for a position that puts her a "heartbeat away". Of, course, if enough pundits say otherwise...

Johnny went pretty far down the list. And, that was because he had to pick from a short list of Repub office holders that were not pissed off with him, or visa-versa.

Much of what is here is a critique of why Palin is a good or bad for her ticket. If people first examine whether she is fit for the actual position of Veep, they must admit that the type of candidate she might make, is a shallow question.

P.S. I think some of us may be missing the fact that Palin may be one of the few names in the R party who McCain isn't really personally pissed-off at, or who isn't pissed at McCain.

Guess he had to go pretty far down the list.
