  • Hi Heretic,
Which "he" are you referring to? It's not clear.
I'm thinking it may be Obama, but if that's the case, your comment on the "about face" needs some clarification - he made a statement with some very clear qualifiers.
    thanks

  • Most of us recognize this resolution represents a clear and present danger for all of us,
Wait ... what!?!?! IIRC, clear and present danger is among the few conditions under which government may exercise prior restraint of speech(in the USA).

  • So. I see that some people are dismayed by what they see as Gen. Clark's disrespect of Sen. McCain's military experience, and see others who insist that there was no disrespect, just the facts, and some who rightly point out that Gen. Clark was repeating the interviewers own phrasing.

I guess I'll have to be the first to ask: who do you suppose Gen. Clark was addressing?
My answer? Military voters. Retired, Reserves, IRR and Active Duty. The vast majority of whom are not pilots. Aviators are an "elite", and single-seat pilots are especially so. Pointing out that McCain's biggest claim to fame is being a fly-boy who got shot down over enemy territory is meant to remind military voters that McCain was part of an elite group that looked down on grunts.

  • You mean like when Obama's crowd called Clinton a bitch?
Bzzzt. That was a McCain supporter. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/us/politics/14mccain.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
You mean like when Obama's crowd called Clinton a c**t?
Bzzzzt. That was McCain, to his own wife. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Euu_DMhsXQo
You mean like when Obama's crowd called Clinton "Shillary"?
You get partial credit for this - it's not clear who first enunciated this gem, although several google searches turn up similar percentages of left and right leaning sites. It should be noted that a minority(run!) of them directly reference support for Sen. Obama, and a similar number suggest support for Sen. McCain.
You mean like when Obama's crowd called Clinton "Billary"?
Bzt - you should at least try to make cogent points - truncation and conglomeration of couples' names is commonplace in the vernacular. Bennifer? Brangelina? Interesting they are all celebrities - fitting, as Senator and President Clinton are just that, in addition to being elected officials. Maybe if you'd try to make a point of how this is insulting or otherwise a negative.
You mean like when Obama's crowd calls anybody who doesn't support Obama a racist - simply because they don't support him?
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzt. If you're just going to phone it in, why not simply decline to do it at all? That's a bullshit assertion, and you should know it - if you don't, I won't speculate as to why, only offer my judgment that it's pathetic and inexcusable.
You're wrong, Mommie. Smear campaigns are so very 2008. Smears are the Millenialists' stock in trade. Right up there alongside hypocrisy.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzttttttttt. You can't be self-referential like that, even accidentally. If you're going to continually fling smears about black "racism" at people who happen to be voting for a black candidate, you're going to have to avoid accusing others of smearing.

  • Does anyone have an idea whether it's permissible under Senate rules for a sitting Senator and Presidential candidate to, in essence, give a x-hour campaign speech while speaking during a filibuster?
That would be interesting, and become part of the Congressional Record to boot. And would probably be somewhat newsworthy.

Ah, but for the immune-deficient, either can be a death sentence. Ours is not a fundamentally healthy economy, if we're going to use an organismic metaphor to describe it.
