- : I was born. I went to public school and then to college. I married, had a child who died, had another child who lived and is now in college and is wonderful. Somewhere in there I got divorced. I worked full-time in publishing, then went freelance, then couldn't make a living that way, then tried to go back to full-time work but found I was a dinosaur in a job market I'd never encountered before, got a degree in paralegal studies and tried to get a job as a paralegal but couldn't, went into a teacher training program and tried to get a job as a teacher but couldn't, started a blog which I still write, and am passionate about, but don't make any money from, worked for a few months as a proofreader at a weekly newspaper, but got laid off for budget reasons, and here I am. I'm unemployable, but I still have to live. I'll let you know how that turns out as soon as I know.
- : Well, this one, of course. Next to mine.
- : Isabel Allende, "Paula" Ann Packer, "The Dive from Clausen's Pier" Sue Monk Kidd, "The Mermaid's Chair" Alice Hoffman, "The Ice Queen" John Grogan, "Marley and Me" This is an incredibly partial list. I just have too many favorite books to name them all.

Elizabeth, thank you for doing this work. I had no idea there were hearings going on about this issue. It's so important.
And to chemjeff: No, it's really not as simple as that. Please, please, consider not voicing such certainty about a subject you obviously know very little, if anything, about. Talk to people who do have experience, read books and magazines and blogs, walk a mile...
And if you are not inclined to do that, or don't want to, or can't, or don't feel you need to, then the next best thing you can do is keep your simple-minded, ignorant opinions to yourself.
