  • Sweeping the leg on "McCain's" Surge

Here is what I think Obama should say, possibly in the debate, when McCain begins to brag about the Surge:McCain likes to point out that he supported Bush's Surge, but McCain's support for Bush's war is already well-documented.  He has...more »

Hope this isn't a pain, and I know many of you probably already signed this, but there is one last, serious effort underway to stop the Bush Library and Think Tank from coming to fruition.  We really could stop it. ...more »

  • Oil! or Bush is a Bad Wingman.

Yesterday, McCain came out hard for off-shore drilling.  Later in the day, so did Bush. What the hell?Didn't Bush get the memo?  McCain is trying to distance himself.  They can share other things!  National security, social security, Cheney.  How and why...more »

  • Gallup: Obama's Incredible Rebound

Today's poll finds Obama slaughtering John McCain by a 46%-42% margin, with a ±2% margin of error. A week ago, Obama was suffering from a devastating 45%-42% lead that led to rumors he might withdraw from the race completely....more »

  • McCain vs. the Press

So it's interesting that McCain's defense of this latest gaffe is that the media is only stating a portion of the quote.  Similarly, the other day, his campaign took umbrage with the use of brackets, or rather, they fixed on...more »

  • Suddenly, VP HiIlary doesn't bother me.

I don't know how or why it happened.  Not two days ago I was marveling at the Hillary conundrum.  That Obama could unite the party with the pick, but in doing so, would compromise his new Washington message and piss...more »

  • Hillary and Steph and NAFTA

In the town hall this morning, one of two things happened, and each seems troubling.1) Hillary and George attended those Anti-NAFTA meetings together.  Which begs the question:  If this is true, why hasn't George mentioned it before?  Doing so would've...more »

  • McCain's Slavery Problem

So as many of you probably did, I saw Gingrich on John Stewart last night slopping around like a pig in Wright and then, of course, Ayers. And though Stewart's audience is smarter than most of Gingrich's mistresses, he felt the...more »

  • Those present day numbers are not reflective of the years McCain was imprisoned, and is even less representative of the number of Vietcong communist party members prison guards who might also have been secret Catholics.

That second number would be 1. Luckily for McCain's political career, he ended up in that particular guy's prison.

  • Someone should put together a commercial that features all the rulings the supreme court members McCain doesn't like have voted for, and superimpose the fact that none of these things would be law if McCain had his way. It would be a long and powerful list.

  • This should be an easy case to pursue, because Warren is going to be pretty embarrassed and feel a responsibility to clear the air. I bet a little pressure will get a more public confirmation from him that McCain was in a position to cheat. He does not want to be seen as aiding McCain. While his immediate audience would probably be fine with that, Warren is interested in the broader audience as well and will not want to be seen as part of the evangelical republican cabal.

  • Somebody else might've pointed this out (there are some long comments on this thread), but McCain's story never passed the sniff test for me, and no I have a better idea of why.

It's a hundred percent believable that there is some old Russian Christian in the Gulag.

It is much much less believable that there is a Christian Vietcong guard in the camp.

Is it possible, yes. But probable? Hell no.

  • "So do any number of special interest groups."

Numbers wise, yes. But those other groups have not nearly as effective a job of getting those numbers to all vote and to all vote alike.

It's a small group, relative to the population, but the population doesn't all vote, and when they do, they tend to fall all over the spectrum--even unions can't "control" their member's votes (though they do a fairly good job of it). Most African-Americans percentage wise are against gay marriage, but they don't all vote and the ones who are do not vote based solely on this issue. The evangelicals are (have been) lockstep and they go to the polls.

I'm heartened however by the fact that every other religious group is polling for Obama. So the only large religious movement that McCain can claim right now are the ones who actively pray for, and look forward to, the end of the world.

The fact Obama will break off a small portion of this group is enough. All we really need to do is make sure everyone else votes and we wont have to worry about the Rapture-heads.

  • I agree, I think this is actually more damning. It's one thing to decide something on merit (yeah, right) and then the people that decision benefits want on board--that makes sense, assuming the original decision was made for its own purposes (which I'm not).

But to get paid and then switch is way worse.

  • This is a great idea. The whole reason they end up undercutting Obama on successes like the trip abroad or on leading in the polls is because they have to talk about it so much that they feel obligated to be critical.
