  • penalcolony...you're right, that's weird. I borrowed John McCain's personal computer and used the Goggle and I can't find a thing on Randy before 1986, other than it appears his middle initial is "J". At least that's the only Randy Scheunemann who pops up in DC or Virginia. No bio, no alma mater, no birth date, no favorite color, nuttin'. Odd.

  • Scheunemann - as wrong as he was, is and will be - isn't the issue, and won't be an issue with the media. McCain - as wrong as he was, is and will be - is the problem and should be the topic of analysis. If McCain's history of error is getting little attention, do you think anybody is going to pay attention to Scheunemann?

  • Yup, I think Erickson is toast. He appears to be for nothing, and have nothing to propose. All he has is a bag full of the usual rote attacks against Republican bogeymen circa 1995. It's like turning on a wind-up doll someone found after it sat for years in a closet. Plus, what a creep; he campaigns as a right-to-lifer, but pays for his girlfriend's abortion? Even by Republican standards, that's bad. Isn't it?

  • Those of us in Oregon find this too funny. Mannix exudes desperation so badly voters can smell it; he's run for everything in sight and lost, and you can practically see the sweat under his armpits as he gives it another try. He used to be a Democrat, which he would probably be again if it would get him a steady job. As BBpdx said upthread, Erickson seems to have been frozen back in 1994 and thawed out for this race. He's all no-taxes-ever and limited government, as if the last decade never happened. He's rich enough to be pretty much funding himself. The prospect of the two of them trashing each other to death warms my heart.

  • Gotta agree with Michael Powe on this one. Gordo is smart, personable, rich, moderate in his public pronouncements, and he's got world-class hair. His policy ideas and his voting record are miserable, but he comes across as a reasonable person, making a point of working with Senator Wyden when it comes to bringing home the pork to the state. I fervently hope he loses, but I don't think it will happen.

  • Well said, Ms. Joanne. Power, once gained, is difficult to give up and genies are hard to put back in the bottle. I know I'm not confident that any future administration will voluntarily renounce the tactics given us by this administration, nor do I believe future congresses will show more courage than the last few have. Under the whip of fear and in the guise of keeping us free, I think we're weaving the web that will ensnare us. And we won't realize it until it's too late to do much about it. Please tell me I'm wrong and that if we fight back, it will be enough.

  • So, is Bloch's office being shut down because it might be corrupt, or because it's investigating the DOJ? Or both? When corrupt agency A investigates corrupt agency B, which is investigating corrupt agency C...

  • If I had confidence in the questioning skills and the courage and determination of the committee members, I might get excited about this. My fear is that Addington et al will put on a show of bravado and macho that will make the committee look feeble.

  • may find itself without friends in Washington

I'd like to see a comprehensive round-up of the companies and individuals that have made a fortune in the last seven years with the aid of "friends in Washington". Wouldn't it be good to see all that in one place?
