  • I've only known a few people in my life that actually rode around in limos. They were either corporate lawyers or bankers, and they were all die-hard republicans.

Do liberal senators count in this category?

  • Here's the followup article on Bush:

"And yes, I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved."

of course, the interviewer apparently was either too shocked or just not smart enough to follow up on her question...

  • "...justice has been meted out." Well, not quite yet. and it wasn't just a "handful of individuals on prison duty," either.

seems you haven't read about the "Principals' meetings" yet:

    http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/LawPolitics/story?id=4583256&page=1
"the Principals Committee included Vice President Cheney, former National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Secretary of State Colin Powell, as well as CIA Director George Tenet and Attorney General John Ashcroft."

When asked on April 11, 2008, in an abc interview (go to abcnews.com for the video) if he approved the techniques, President Bush answered that of course he did.

There are a lot of reasons it's an indictment of the US and the president, not least of which is the president's own belligerent admission of it.

  • Yep.

People want to vote FOR someone and are happy to do so, finally for once. so somehow that makes them "cultists".

Says more about the despondency of the name-caller and their transparent lack of faith in the country to me, than it does about any "cultist".

  • It's been pretty heavily speculated (and generally accepted, I've always thought) that former CIA director GHW Bush, as part of Reagan's campaign team, scuttled the Iran parliament's expected vote to release the hostages thru a deal with the ayatollah. Old CIA hands such as Bush were kicked out by carter, and several may have been seeking their revenge, as well as a chance to swing the elecation. In exchange for arms from the future Reagan Admin, the ayatollah agreed to hold the hostages until after the election.

"The Iranian parliament was meeting and we had every information from Bani-Sadr and others that they were going to vote overwhelmingly to let the hostages go. And at the last minute on Sunday [two days before the election] for some reason they had adjourned without voting.... The votes were there, but the Ayatollah or somebody commanded them to adjourn."

  • I agree. praise what you like, then bring up what you want to change. A lot of folks are opposed to the whole bill, but the immunity part is the odious piece. and once he clearly says he's opposed to that, WHICH HE DID, he actually has put himself in a position where he HAS to work hard against it, or he'll appear weak.

he didn't have to come out with guns blazing, because he's the leader of the party. that would've undermined the whole message of listening and made him look as ridiculous as mccain did after the habeas ruling.

  • are you on his mailing list? would be cool to collect them all and make a resource site so that obama supporters can refer to it when discussing with the "casually informed" voters that believe some of them.

I doubt that the 'fight the smears' site would cover them all, and it is difficult to respond to some of these when they are new. on the tax one I mentioned above, there were quite a few articles online that supported the lie in different ways, but I only found a couple that referred to the actual bill and were truthful.
