  • Obama vs. Bush/McCain(So this is what Obama refused to do to Hillary)

Wow, I just youtubed the South Dakota statements by Obama today responding to the Repubs.  And it reminded me of Obama's painful spring. As many pundits had mentioned, he was on the defensive for much of the period (esp. between Penn...more »

  • Even if Hillary drops out won't she still win Kentuck and WV?

So what looks worse?  Obama losing two states as a presumptive nominee or the battle to continue going on?  I mean he doesn't have a chance in those two states one way or the other right, unless she takes her...more »

  • When I wonder why Clinton is still running, I remember Bush

As an Obamabot I do often wonder why on earth Clinton still has such traction among voters...I have to remind myself that almost 1 out of 3 people STILL approve of George W's performance!...more »

  • If Obama is McGovern, then Clinton is?

Given this currently growing meme of Obama = McGovern or Dukakis I'm curious who Clinton supporters would use to analogize thier candidate (presumably positively)....As an Obama supporter, I would not be charitable so I'd rather see what other folks would...more »

  • The similarity goes further. McCain and Guliana became more classical ReThugs to get elected...which is what really turned me off of Guliani.

I liked McCain for the past 7 years, but I've lost interest in him this year ever since he started veering hard right. Since he protests he's always been a true conservative, I must say that I am happy that he has chosen to show his real colors now rather than later.

I hope he continues to campaign badly.

  • I completely agree with that assessment. I think many Clintonista's view Obama as the Republicans viewed "Slick Willie". The Slick Willie has major ethical issues with misspeaking, and it absolutely drives their opposition crazy that they can survive as long and as often as they do.

The Clinton supporters most likely have a visceral reaction against "Obama the Orator" and at this point their opinions have hardened to the point of "I'm not gonna vote for Obama". I think he turns their stomachs every time they see him on the screen.

I have to admit as an Obama supporter that this long primary election season has done the same for me concerning Clinton -- I can't watch more than ten seconds of her before getting reallky pissed off.

Hopefully the long general election season will soften the Clinton supporters enough that they will at least vote for Obama.

  • To be honest I imagine that anyone that has the ability to attract hundreds of millions of dollars ($160 of mine included) so that you can go to the next round of a election process is most likely a bit nuts (both in having the ability and as a consequence of having done that). Some do it with style, others come off crazy.

And in Hillary's defense, its a lot harder to pull it off with style when you're losing.

  • I'd say the calendar...Unfortunately Hillary's team did not see nor mitigate the post Super tuesday flood and Obama's made it happen. My guess is that Obama's team may secretly have known/feared that it would drag out like this because of the demographics involved in the post March 4th primaries. I remember a quote from Alexrod "I'll be honest, I can't deny were' going to miss Feburary."

  • Yes, I'm quite sad...I never had a very high opinion of Clinton, but it seems that McCain is going to crater in my eyes exponentially faster than Clinton's did.

I believe McCain has a valid point (talking does not solve all our problems) but wholeheartedly adopting the Bush foreign policy position scares the crap out of me. McCain more than any other politician could have really sold the iron gauntlet under a silk glove (the one that Obama seems to beholding) position, but he's chosen otherwise.

At least Bush declared Mission Accomplished when it seemed like the war was won, not preemptively 5 years before the fact.

Posted at May 16, 2008 3:28 PM in response to Rove Hits Obama for "undermining the Constitutition" (corrected)

  • hmm both campaigns have been spinning....the "vote your constiuency" thing has been quietly dropped when Obama's camp realized they could do much better than that...

however, I think it goes without saying that Hillary's camp has been spinning much faster and faster each time they realized the new goalposts they set out are still within reach for for Obama.

Posted at May 15, 2008 2:27 PM in response to Clinton admits she's ok with overturning the will of the voters

  • Maybe, I would not doubt that Obama captures the "we will help fix racial inequality with this vote" demographic. However, that usually is reflected in the polls (the Bradley effect) not in the voting booth, so there IS something different about this guy (even if its not necessarily the difference that he claims for himself).

As for the social pressure, I think it must be particularly strong on African Americans, but I think you are absolutely incorrect when you claim that Obamabots think that white voters for Hillary are automatically racist. I think people have claimed that Hillary has adopted race-baiting and racially divisive tactics, and people naturally assume that Hillary is winning the vote of people who are anti-black racists (just like most would admit that Obama has most likely won the votes of anti-white racists)

But I have not read on this board people claim that all Hillary Supporters automatically racist.

I don't know if you've noticed, but in the blogging world, people do get nasty. I disagree with the tone, I think it is unhealthy, but I think that TPM has been particularly calm compared to other boards (see MyDD or HuPo).

For what its worth, I would mention that many of Hillary's voters are particularly strident for her due to her gender and one can write similar things about claims made by her more loudmouthed supporters that you make about the more obnoxious Obama suppoters.
