  • I've been wondering how all of this will impact the right's ability to raise campaign funds.  While individual contributions will probably still remain high, the kind of back room wheeling and dealing that put the GOP in power and has kept it there is quickly being dismantled and put out of business (or hopefully in prison).  I'm hoping we'll see a the results of this in 2006.  The Democrats are set up to win if they can play their cards right (not a given).

  • I'm sorry to see that this story has not been more widely spread by the MSM - perhaps everyone is too busy loosening their belts for tomorrow's Thanksgiving celebrations.  IMO it's the smoking gun - Bush knowingly told the American people something that his intelligence assets did not believe to be true.  More importantly he misled Congress on this key issue which is grounds for impeachment if it can be proven.

"He's gotta show these right-wingers he's got backbone ya know . . . the WSJ editorial page is watching you show 'em your tough."

Perhaps this hit too close to home for Novak.  Perhaps he was previously snubbed for a spot on said editorial page?

Either way I'd like to thank him for such great entertainment value.

  • Diarrhea attack?  It's usually coming from his mouth so perhaps this caught him by surprise.

For whatever reason he let slip a blatant "BS" on air and I think at that point he decided it was time to bust a move and act outraged by the same sort of stuff these guys fling at each other on cable news night after night.

Impairment sounds like a good reason for him to let slip a BS.  It's not like a he's a rookie at this stuff.

  • A semantic delay tactic.  Even if indicted people would probably be able to finish out Bush's term long before any convictions would occur making it no harm, no foul in their twisted minds.

At the same time it would seem to not be politically expedient to keep anyone charged with a crime around during the 2006 election cycle.

  • the meat of the matter is that a State dept. memo containing information that Valerie Wilson was a CIA operative was at the very least viewed by Colin Powell on Air Force One.  That information, along with Mrs. Wilson's maiden name, made its way to Robert Novak and he disclosed it to the public at large.  A crime was committed. I don't understand why that is still even a matter of debate.  The only question now is can Fitzgerald find the original source(s) of the information and can he prove it.  Or, can he prove that the crime was "erased" by a cover-up operation.

Everything else is just meant to cloud the issue and is pure spin.  The Rove machine understands that its best strategy at this point is to continue the lie and to put the spin machine in overdrive so that should the investigation go their way (no indictments) they can say "see, told you so."  They are accustomed to being able to fool enough people enough of the time to get away with just about anything.  When the average American is not attentive enough to string it all together in their own heads people like Rove can rule the day.
