"White voters" aren't born, they're carefully cooked up in the lab--just ask Dr. Clinton (re-post--w/paragraph breaks restored!))
(For some reason TPM's formatting removed paragraph breaks from the first version posted. Please read this one!)With W. Virginia supposedly about to go very big for Hillary Clinton, I'd like to dig into something that's been bugging me throughout this...more »

A (tropical) cyclone is a hurricane is a typhoon
One thing that everybody ought to understand about the disastrous storm in Burma is that it was a hurricane--a powerful hurricane, which drove a destructive storm surge of ocean water up through the Burmese delta lowlands, pretty much exactly...more »

Why the Clintons are bigger racists than the unshaven drunk tossing around the n-word

Query: Where's Paul Krugman on Hillary Clinton's race-baiting?
NYT columnist Paul Krugman was on Stephanopoulos' show Sunday, taking the same whacks at Obama as he did in last Friday's column: that Obama's policy proposals on the mortgage meltdown are wimpier and less progressive than Clinton's--as he describes it,...more »

Bill Clinton was (wink) talking about race, not patriotism
Bill Clinton's recent comments to that VFW audience in North Carolina should be understood for what they were: a perfect example of the Clintons' now-polished technique of making veiled-but-legible racist comments and then disingenuously denying them, even (diabolically disingenuous!) blaming...more »

Obama vs. Clinton: the choice going forward for Dems
An attempt at explaining why I think Hillary Clinton's recent campaign tactics are not offensive but dangerous, and why Obama represents an infinitely more appealing choice: Ever since I heard Obama's Iowa victory speech, in which he elaborated on his...more »

Spitzer was a post-modern price
There's something very up-to-date and post-modern about the Spitzer implosion. Here's a guy who publicly modeled himself after Thomas Dewey (and even Robert Kennedy) before him: He established his chops as a crime-fighter in the Manhattan DA's office when he...more »

Good thought. I think you're right, CTV. Now, maybe after another dozen or so so-called red seats tilt blue for credible Dem opponents, maybe the MSM will drop, already, the Dean-wasted-the-DNC's-bucks-on- hopeless-red-districts meme. (Back again this weekend in the WaPost). Though to be fair, there seem to be a fair no. of Dem officials happy to spread that dumbo virus as well.

Agreed--but you've got to admit there's something a bit cold-blooded about blithely dropping the assassination of Robert Kennedy into the middle of an argument for Why I should be allowed to stay in this race for as long as I want.

Exactly. there are SO many reasons Hillary's VP boosters have zero credibility and no chance of success here: Their basic argument depends on the same old racist Clinton crap: "White" voters will vote "White" no matter what. Look at those Ohio, Pa., Va. numbers--virtually no matter WHO Obama picks for VP, he's trouncing McCain.
And as noted in other posts, these "Our big money folks will sit on their wallets if Hillary ain't VP" threats are A) complete nonsense, as past campaigns show over and over--any fat cat with even a prayer for influence in the party will shell out for the nominee--and B) pretty uninteresting to a candidate with Obama's internet fundraising reach.
AND I'd bet that polls will show that Edwards or several others poll stronger in swing states.
I'd feel a little sorry for Hillary if I hadn't become so disgusted with her and Bill--but the fact is, she's got precious little leverage and less good will to peddle at this point with this winning candidate, in this year.Posted at May 23, 2008 2:23 PM in response to Hillary's Top Fundraising Official Says There's "Risk" Of Obama Loss If She Isn't Invited To Be Veep

Interesting concept. I think there is a touch of sociopathy to the Clintons--a bit of the Macbeth madness, a dissociation from the legitimacy of others' interests bred by a lifetime of ambitiousness and ten-thousand politically expedient decisions. Death by a thousand cut-throats.
Bush knows none of this: not soul-killing sociopathy (certainly not ambition), but brain-killing lazy privilege.

At times hit the right tone? I thought it was pretty much a home-run, and of course an indicator of more to come. I wish he'd drop the insider lingo--Bush's comments "for the domestic market," McCain's !00 years comment "didn't poll well"--these are grave matters, not stock market tips--but overall, I thought Obama's response was as smart, well-judged and forcefully delivered as any I've seen from a Democrat in a long time. Bodes well, IMO.

Yeah, exactly. Really, the awful fascination of watching her self-immolation is the only thing that keeps getting her press. On some level--as an apparently once smart liberal pol plummets berserkly into David Dukedom--does she know that? Is the attention of appalled gawkers better than no attention at all?

Good thought--Though I'd say your call ought to go out re/ all Congressional supporters of Clinton. There needs to be much more up-front confronting of the Clintons on their race-baiting, and a broad rejection of it. Too many party leaders are in denial, at least public denial, about this.
