I said something this morning on the Morning Roundup thread about wanting the Obama campaign to go on the attack, make the Republicans play defense. I still think that's the best strategy, but there are lots of ways to do it. And watching this presser just now, I'll echo what someone said aboce, "That man has icewater in his veins." This strikes me as the right response. At the same time, I'd like to see some surrogates (Where's Hil?) calling out the lies directly.

I don't think you have to "get down in the mud" with Palin & McCain in order to make them play defense. And it may well be that the most glaring lies & contradictions need to be put out by surrogates, but making nice like Biden did this morning, while it might be a good opening move, is just another way of capitulating to the noise machine. I realize that Obama is trying to promote a new kind of politics & I admire him for it, but it is still, after all, politics. It's about persuasion.

I’ve given quite a bit of money to the Obama campaign this year & I’m likely to give more, but not until I see them go on the attack. I got an email this morning form David Plouffe (me & millions of other contributors) to the effect that the answer to Sarah Palin’s sneering attack on “community organizers” is to say, “Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.” sorry, the right response will be to hang Palin out to dry for her lies & radical right-wing ideas. Don’t explain, don’t complain — make the right wing culture warrior play defense. That’s when I’ll cut another check.

I wonder if Palin puts FL in play because of her close ties to Pat Buchanan. Jewish voters tend to think of Buchanan as Hitler's first cousin.

My terrier is a mean little leftist & she's going to vote for Obama despiter her disappointment over FISA & the whole faith-based thing. But because Obama talks to us like adults, she is not only going to vote for him -- she's helping me organize a fundraiser at my house in a couple of weeks at which all her human pals are going to be asked to write checks for at least $100 to the Obama campaign -- we're giving till mt hurts & want to encourage our friends to do the same. So if you're in or around South Colton NY I'm providing the burgers & beer -- just bring your checkbook. I hope to be able to stuff an envelope with a couple of thousand dollars by the end of the day.
