  • Some of "them" do need to be "crushed," though. Still, I think you are doing a good job bringing up some points the more ardent of the posters here should be considering. This election campaign is just one battle in a struggle that's going to continue for a long time. Progressives have got to think tactically at times in order to achieve long term goals.

  • I'm not really interested in payback against the telecoms. I want to keep alive the principle that the congressional and judicial branches have a right to oversight regarding the executive branch, even in security matters. So far, the bill does this.
    Anyway, this issue isn't going to be settled until next year, when there is a new administration and a new Congress. What I want is Obama and the Democrats to make the final decision.

  • I don't don't think the suburbs are quite as soul-destroying as Christopher Williams thinks, but I completely agree the burbs' best days are behind them. We're looking at a high-energy cost future (not just gas), and that's a chilly environment for the suburbs.
    Well, it was (sort of) nice while it lasted...

  • The fight over FISA and government spying in general is going to go on for years. This is just one dustup; let's keep the handwringing at a realistic level. Yell all you want; it's actually good for your congressional representatives. But it's a little early for us to crawl back into our holes and sulk.

  • This might be a case of 'Be careful what you wish for.' Given the amount of rage, fury and hate (I've contributed a bit myself) that ends up in the forum, I think we all should be glad that the standards for successful libel and slander are so high.
