How the Wright Controversy will End
The Wright controversy has "shaken (Obama) up a little bit" and so far proved to be the most lasting of all his problems. But despite the worry of some democrats, I'm inclined to predict that it will go the way...more »

How the media handles Obama and Wright
My concern is how the media is handling this story. Much has already been said about the double standard with John McCain. But there is also the question of providing appropriate context. M.J. Rosenberg alludes to this in his post....more »

I should add that I make this prediction not just because "Obama said so". Wright is a successful preacher who has built a mega-church with 6000 people. That can't happen if he shows up every Sunday saying "God damn America".

Olbermann criticized Clinton for encouraging Ferraro with a wink and a nod. Obama has jumped out of his underwear to repudiate Wright. So Olbermann does not need to criticize Obama. It would be nice to see Olbermann speak out though... in support of Obama. How is it that we've had McCain, Huckabee and even Cheney defend Obama, but precious little from white democratic leadership. The only ones defending Obama seem to be Jesse Jackson, Gov Deval Patrick and Rep. Rangel (who is not an Obama supporter) all black democrats.

Its too soon to draw a conclusion about the impact of the Wright story. I believe it will cost him some voters and also attract some new ones.
He is also going to win most of the primaries ahead because in this whole fracas, Hillary has not done much to win over Obama supporters. Her focus has been on keeping her supporters in places like Pennsylvania by putting down Obama. I think the Clinton campaign is once again underestimating the impact of all those victories for Obama between now and June.

Even though we liberals often like to bash Petraeus for being the face of the war, we ultimately have to admit that his candor is a refreshing change from the Bush administration line. If the rest of the Bush administration was like Petraeus, we would still have to deal with an unacceptable world view, and we would have many disagreements, but not the same level of rancor or deception, and we may not even be in this whole mess in Iraq.
This is what makes McCain more formidable. Even if his world view is more conservative than Bush, he "appears" to offer more honesty and candor. The positive is that we can hopefully have a real debate about ideas with him, which is the only debate that can create a lasting liberal majority. The negative is that many "average Joe" Americans are stubbornly conservative in their ideology (especially foreign policy).

Scenario 71: One week before the PA primary, Fox News shows a shot of some screaming fans at an Obama Rally, only to discover that Chelsea Clinton and Meghan McCain are in the crowd. The pair later come out and confess their love for Obama and for each other. Scandal ensues and both Hillary Clinton and John McCain are forced to give important speeches about Family loyalty and Homosexuality in America respectively. Hillary's speech falls flat as she takes occasional angry snipes at Bill Clinton during the speech. McCain's speech fails because his speech writers could not decide if he should be for homosexuality or against it, so he takes both positions. Obama laughs so hard at the demise of his opponents that he forgets to show up to the convention. SNL's Fred Armisen seizes the opportunity to show up at the convention pretending to be Obama, and wins the nomination. Tina Fey seizes the opportunity to marry Fred Armisen and become his running mate. Moments before the election, Fey kills Armisen and makes it look like suicide. She wins the presidency and an entire generation of Americans grows up thinking politics is comedy. (Probability 0.infinity %)

We keep responding to his poor choice of words/language and not to his message. Is his message inflammatory or scary?

Hannity probably has a conservative white preacher. Wonder if he's ever said anything controversial? Nah. Hannity would have left the church if he did.
