  • Not exactly - because a lot of those HRC supporters are independents.

  • They should still hold the meeting on the 31st no matter if he gets to 2025 or not. The delegate situation in FL and MI needs to be sorted out and happily agreed upon by all parties so that there can be no media thread about the 'legitamacy' of Obama's nomination, or pre-convention BS rumors and questions of party unity.

I have no doubt that they will sort it out amicably and fully transparently on the 31st, and Hillary will gracefully bow out however she chooses. Having 2025 by then is just a better bargaining chip for Obama.

Be happy, we won. We'll get our confetti night soon. Remember, he's smarter than us (thats why he's gonna be president).

  • Although the mention of Hillary was booed at first at the EdBama rally yesterday, by the end of his effusive praise of her, Edwards had the crowd cheering for her. I think it was a good example of a microcosm of what's to come. It won't happen immediately, but, as they say: "Primaries are a time to fall in love, Generals are a time to fall in line."

  • According to the current rules, Obama will eclipse this mark for sure on May 20. Since the rules currently state that FL and MI don't count, Obama is only 25 delegates short of the majority of pledged dels. The number, should it change, would do so on May 31, so he will pass the pledged majority on May 20, thus giving him 11 days to wrangle up a deluge of supers to put him over the 2025 mark by May 31. He needs to average about 4.5 supers a day (including a win in OR and a loss in KY) to get to 2025 by May 31. He has been averaging around this the last couple of days, and assuming he gets the 'majority of available pledged dels' talking point on May 20, he could easily be at 2025 by May 31.

Then, we can talk about FL and MI, but only in the context of Obama already having won, not in the Clinton framework where those delegates actually can change the outcome.

  • Honestly, I didn't notice. I was in a bar and everyone in the bar was hooting and hollering as well. I don't think this is indicative of a malicious intent, just overt and unescapable excitement. I was hooting myself. He may be America's greatest speaker, but he is certainly used to being 'replied to'...

I have nothing against this. When someone speaks truth to power, saying Amen is fine by me.

  • Thanks, just wanted to put more of a face on the efforts going on outside of the media's purview. We get too lost in surrogate battles and superdelegate endorsements to realize that the real battle is going on in every district with volunteers sweatin' it out on the streets.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey all, I have a post about my experience working in NC as well. A bit more personal than this one, but a nice complement. Check it out!

  • Not to mention that this also gives Obama a platform to have a 'confetti night.' His just winning a couple of superdelegates in early June that put him over the top is not what we need as a kickoff to the general election campaign.

Posted at May 7, 2008 5:41 PM in response to The Magic of May 20

  • I think the blogosphere and the Obama camp is really on to something with this May 20th idea. My further hope is that on the night of the 20th, Obama and Clinton appear on the same stage for their victory speeches, and Clinton gives her speech, thanking everyone for a truly historic run for the presidency, and announces her endorsement and introduction of the next president of the US, Barack Obama, to make his victory/acceptance speech.

Here's to wishful thinking... but I think this would have an enormous effect by making a huge jump in bridging the divide of this party. Not to mention the media would eat it up for breakfast.

  • I'm sitting on my chair at work wishing I was out on the streets canvassing. But I'll be there as soon as the clock hits 5.

I was in no way insinuating that folks here are doing nothing, I just feel the urgency of these last couple days and want to motivate people not to be anxious or upset, but to do something about it.

And it helps me sleep at night.
