  • McCain has already shown himself to be an FEC crook who games the system. Every time the McCain campaign accuses Obama of "breaking his pledge", just point out that you don't make pledges with people who break the laws.

  • When you respond to a smear attack, you have no choice but to be on the "defensive". I don't know why there is anything wrong with this, it's called defending yourself.

Clarke is a great surrogate on this topic, since he knows more about counter-terrorism than the whole McCain camp put together.

He should bring up that Obama is willing to bomb Al Qaeda sites in Pakistan, a position that McCain thinks is TOO aggressive.

  • Actually, the RBC did seat the full delegations. They just gave them half-voting power. You should fix the story to be more accurate. FL and MI got full seating, full delegations. But they got half voting power.

  • I don't think it was Republicans. I think it was bitter Clinton supporters who claimed they would vote for McCain instead.

You really need to see the internals on these polls to make sense of them. I'd bet you that Obama outperforms Hillary with Republicans and Independents, but gets beat among Democrats because of her bitter, spiteful supporters (not all of them, just enough).

Hillary is continuing to poison the well for Obama. The super-delegates really need to put this thing to an end.

  • Exactly right. McCain did much more poorly in polls while he was still battling Romney than he did after he won the nomination.

You can't realistically gauge Obama's support when up to 25% of Clinton supporters are withholding support from him out of loyalty to Hillary. I'm surprised he isn't losing to McCain in all of the polls!

  • The problem with any of these polls is that, as Josh Marshall points out, Clinton has been whipping her supporters up into a frenzy. She's making them think that she's really ahead, and Obama is stealing the nomination thanks to sexist players in the media and DNC.

For that reason, lots of Hillary supporters (especially older women) are either saying that they will vote McCain, or won't vote at all. Markos at DailyKos looked at the internals of some of these polls, and that's what they were saying.

Once Hillary concedes and Democrats lick their wounds, Obama will bounce back big time in these polls. But right now there are too many sour grapes Clinton supporters (and much less Obama sour grapes supporters, since he is winning) for these polls to mean anything.

  • Exactly. I'd rather have Obama pick someone, like Sebelius or Richardson, who attracts more folks without driving 20% away.

Clinton only have high VP numbers right now because of name recognition and media hype.

  • I agree, it's time to cut him loose now. If he wants to abandon his principles and start voting as a Republican, fine. But the party just can't handle a traitor of his ilk anymore.

Obama campaigned for Joe back in 2006, and this is how Lieberman repays him? What a dirtbag. A total, low life dirtbag.

I'd take away Lieberman's chairmanships immediately, and I'd also think about taking him off key committees entirely. Let Republicans put him on committees if they want.

  • I wouldn't put too much faith in the video.

I think he really says "those polls are shit", and it makes no sense for him to say "white n***r" in that scene.

I think the video's been doctored just a bit, and I'm a big Obama fan. Let's concentrate on real issues instead.

Posted at May 2, 2008 12:45 PM in response to Hillary: Tuesday's Voting Will Be A "Game Changer"

  • Great, now it's even harder to vote! Good job U.S. Supreme Court!

I'm fully expecting Florida and other Republican-led swing states to lead the way strict new voter ID laws. Not only must voters produce IDs, but they must have in-state IDs that have not expired PLUS a valid Social Security card OR a valid Passport.

So you just moved to Florida from New York and still have your NY driver's license? Too bad, you can't vote. Lost your Social Security card, or forgot to bring it to the polling place because they didn't advertise the strict new law? Sorry, out of luck.

I'm just hypothesizing here, but I could easily see this becoming a clusterf**k. In other words, the Republican's dream come true.
