  • This is what motivates low-info voters

It's really disheartening, the more I think about it.  All I have to do is listen to the conservatives with whom I work.  Some are spontaneous statements, some came in the context of conversations, but all are sickening:"I think that...more »

I got a real kick out of Senator McCain's speech.  Specifically, I enjoyed the 30 seconds after he finished speaking.  First of all, it was hillarious to watch Mr. Cottage Cheese walk off the stage after a corpse-like speech, and...more »

  • Not All Sexism Is Equal

I will start with a disclaimer:  I am a white male.I watched a video today about the sexism that Hillary is facing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke64670GkZ8&watch_response), and was disappointed at the broad (pun actually not intended at all) brush that was used, and is...more »

  • Sounds funny, but it happened to me.

In 7th grade, my math teacher told the class that a triangle with two right angles is impossible. "Anyone that can do it gets an A for the semester.

The next day, I came in with a triangle drawn on a softball - three right angles. I was proud of myself for solving a problem by employing spherical geometry as a seventh grader.

She told me that although I had solved the problem, I didn't get the A, because I was smug about it.

Bitter? Yes, it's 21 years later, and I'm still pissed.

    Direct object.

  • It is the most ridiculous idea yet. First of all, having an evangelical Christian right-wing nut standing in line to be president is an invitation for some mountain-bound toothless window licker to go after Obama with his 2nd amendment rights.

Second, I can't see Obama running with someone who believes the earth is 6000 years old.

Third, if you were president, would you want Chuck Norris breathing down your neck every day? No, you wouldn't.

  • When McCain loses, I hope he doesn't cry "racism," because he will lose for the same reason Hillary lost. His campaign sucks.

I wish we could have some uninformed-but-intelligent people take a look at thorough descriptions of HRC's and BHO's campaigns with all references to sex and race excluded. Include the Wright scandal, the Bosnia flub, the primaries vs. caucus information, and get an unbiased analysis.

I'm convinced that the Mysterious Gender and Racially Ambiguous "HRC" would be shown to have run a sloppy campaign, and lost for that reason.

  • I have been thinking this for a long time. I have only one concern, and that is my uncertainty about WC as a campaigner. Is he good? Is he bad? I have no idea. He has no actual campaigning experience, other than to briefly announce his candidacy for president in '04, which ended before he could actually hit the public scene. Beyond that, I know nothing.

I also like that he is young-ish, with an appeal to his looks and personality. Sad as it is in this day and age, looking the part is almost as important as acting the part. He is attractive, professional looking, with an air of authority to him.

I hope the vetters are putting him on the short list. They're probably looking at his mortgage history this very minute...

  • I believe that the post was made tongue-in-cheek. I think the point is this:

    Interracial marriage was illegal.
    Judges overruled the law.
Now interracial marriage is legal, and is a basic right

    Gay marriage was illegal.
    Judges overruled the law.
Now gay marriage is an example of "judicial activism."

The original poster was equating racial intolerance with homosexual intolerance, and making the point that today's "activism" is tomorrows "basic civil right."

  • I used to be a HUGE fan of GS. I knew of her when I was a little tot, because my babysitter read Ms. Magazine.

I took womens studies classes, and I devoured her articles, and took them to heart.

I have spent my adult life trying to be the best embodiment of male feminism that I knew how to be.

It's sad now to watch an icon and a hero become a parody of herself.

  • I tried to post a comment on the PUMA site. I asked for someone to create a blog post that describes their view of the long- and short-term ramifications of a McCain presidency vs. an Obama presidency, and for a policy-based description of why I should vote for McCain.

My comment didn't pass the moderator.

    Oh well.

  • Obama can energize the right-wing nutjobs to get out and vote in one second by selecting Hillary Clinton for Vice-President.

  • I guess we ALL misunderstand Clinton. The poor thing!

It must be difficult to be so misunderstood when one is doing all one can to manipulate as many people as possible to meet one's own personal political goals despite impossible odds, while simultaneously harming one's own party's chances for success.

    My heart breaks for her.
