  • Are the devotees of Cato ready for Scientology schools, Wiccan schools, and Christian Identity schools? Are we all ready to start subsidizing them with our tax dollars? As for me, you'd have to pry that money out of my cold stiff fingers.

    You can Google up any number of outrages perpetrated by state-run schools we're already paying for. I'd like to say "you'll have to pry the money out of my cold stiff fingers" for those schools, Abu Ghraib, and all the other outrages funded with my money, but in practice tax evasion is unpleasant.

  • the United States was not especially hesitant to deploy large-scale killing of civilians as a tactic but, thankfully, we haven't yet reached the point where anyone's explicitly advocating that for Iraq.

  • The article was pretty light on technical details. Are they really going to try to penetrate every home and business with Wifi? 802.11b devices don't have a very long transmission range.

    Will it require a username and password or will it just work as soon as you associate to the network? Will the latter fly when parents figure out it gives their kids unlimited Internet access completely outside their control? Will the former be useful to anyone who doesn't live in the county?

  • Yes, but this "net neutrality" law being American, they wouldn't be bound by it either. If you honestly believe that no ISP can serve your needs without this law, going outside the country isn't going to help.
