I am on the Davis (California) city council, and have just finished a two year term as mayor. Although Davis is about twelve times the size that Wasilla was when Palin became Mayor, we are paid somewhere around $6,000 a year. This is true of most small cities in California.
Mayors of small towns usually make a real salary only if they handle the day-to-day administrative duties. But I have read that Palin hired a city manager shortly after she became mayor.
At that point, her salary should have been turned into a minimal stipend. Again, this is how most small towns compensate their mayors.
I hope someone will write more extensively about this issue.

After viewing the four missing webisodes on u-tube last year, I became strongly convinced that Edwards would have been a disastrous candidate for the Dems.
Edwards supporters should really google the "Edwards missing webisodes", and see for yourself. His girlfriend filmed these "spontaneous" videos, and it was a)clear he was having an affair b)with a bimbo c)displayed an extraordinary degree of vanity d)had absolutely no judgment evidenced by the fact that he reviewed these videos and posted them on his website.
Democrats ducked a bullet.

artappriaser 7:01PM:
I would refer you to Robert Reich's strong criticism of Krugman's analysis of the health care program.
Reich thinks that Obama's plan is a bit better, and is disturbed that the Clinton campaign is mischaracterizing it.
You can read Reich's analysis on his blog by googling Robert Reich blog, and looking under the December and January entries.
