Would HRC accept Veep? - from the debate
Dumb question in a dumb debate – but could it have ended there? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb6P4JJbe9k (about 6:45)During the last - and I hope it stays the last - Democratic primary debate, the idiot moderator Charlie Gibson asked both candidates (simultaneously)...more »

How Hillary lost this liberal
Hillary Clinton now has no “metrics” left to claim a lead – not popular vote, not number of states, not popular vote, not elected delegates, and not “super”, “automatic”, or “magic fairy dust” delegates. Maybe ignorant white racist rednecks,...more »

The Speech
Fellow Americans, loyal supporters, and hard-working staffers: A year and a half ago, I began this campaign for the Presidency knowing that electing me would be a historic first for our great nation. You may have noticed that I’m...more »

OK, this isn't really fair.
Can we distinguish between political differences of opinion (80% of the posts) and real problems with McCain the individual?
Short temper - disqualifier.
Possible senility - disqualifier.
Support for war - (as long as not caused by temper & senility?) - political disagreement.
Inappropriate lobbyist influence - disqualifier.
Dumb tax policy - political disagreement.
Sexist language - You choose.
Faulty "gaydar" (Craig, Foley, Dreier, all them other guys) - not a disqualifier.
Flip-flops - Only disqualifies Democrats.
Age - Depends on health, see above.
Born in Panama - Not a disqualifier.
Showing "Manchurian Candidate" at RNC for laughs - you choose.
Showing "Manchurian Candidate" at DNC and laughing - poor taste.
Showing "Manchurian Candidate on HBO in October - good idea.
Etc. etc. Kind of lost my thread when the Queen of Diamonds came up...

Hey, I'm not a candidate either. Go ahead and give the speech.
But I got the same number of votes in states that held neither primaries nor caucuses, voted green or yellow in the last election, and have a majority of high school dropouts that hold PhDs and work part-time at Walmart - you know, hard-working.... And it's my turn, dammit.Posted at June 3, 2008 6:50 PM in response to Hillary's Concession Speech

Can she swallow her pride enough to say, "I'm not going to get the top spot, but I'd be happy to accept the vice presidential nomination if it was offered"? I doubt it, and that's the big hurdle. If she takes the fight more than a couple days past the last primaries, she's slamming the door on that option. No way she would be tapped if she can't show a trace of humility and bow out gracefully while she has a chance.
On the other hand, she'd be an excellent deterrent to assassination...

Well, Otto's link isn't anything I hadn't known. Hillary has started claiming that some voters are more racist than sexist (I might vote for a woman, but not a black?), maybe she's right. But I don't know how many of those were crossover votes that would, come November, go for McCain anyway. Who would rank white woman over white man, simultaneously white man over black man, without taking positions into account at all?
When it comes down to it, the low road backfired for her. You know what would have turned this around? "I was the victim of this kind of politics. I will not stand for anyone who claims to support me doing the same to anyone in my party".
Read my other post, "The Speech". It's not too late to save yourself and your party, Hillary. If Obama wins come fall, all is forgiven. If he loses, your name will be more reviled than Ralph Nader.Posted at May 11, 2008 1:24 PM in response to How Hillary lost this liberal

Right, it was the "What do we do next" part that I still want clearly articulated. A tough problem both in terms of coming up with a solution and finding a politically acceptable way to sell it in an election.
