Guess these guys - CNAS - are appeasers too... I don't think so. these are some very fine minds working very hard to develop strategic concepts for us in a non-partisan way for the most part. Take a look at...more »

As this NYT site shows, Obama has had huge victories of similar to WV 12 times - often in bigger states than WV to 2 for HRC [AR and WV].HRC will try to spin this win as something more than...more »

I truly don't understand why few, if any, either in the blogosphere or MSM see no parallels between the testimony this week of Petraeus and Crocker and that, admittedly a while ago, of Westmoreland, Abrams, MacNamara, Laird and others. For me,...more »

Though no big fan of HRC, I find this not very credible - the kind of stuff the right wing nuts will throw at her if she manages to win [a VERY doubtful outcome], but it is interesting. Why...more »

I read with absolute fascination DS piece about how that Obama should "take one for the team".This is reminiscent of W's comments about the Iraq war and other arenas where there is virtually complete disassociation from reality. it is tough,...more »

Jade-
I agree with wwstaebler! this is the best summation of the failure of HRC & Co. I have read.
Awesome! This should go viral for all the HRC fans who can't or rather won't see beyond the moment.
Now is the time to start winning the race for the White House.

Nope, not angry at all. Simply going with facts. It is a waste of time and energy to deal with HRC. The only thing keeping it going is the media's desire for additional ad revenue it seems.
One needs to keep things in perspective and deal with facts in this era of reporting that doesn't deal with fact, but reports spin as fact and then reports the "counter-spin" also as fact without bothering to actually deal with the facts.
Perhaps you are right, I am annoyed with the media over this circus.

Wity1-
I agree with you that the all or nothing approach is likely to cause a blood bath. One of the big issues for me is that it took a guy like Saddam to keep the various factions in Iraq from doing what they are doing today. The Brits had issues similar to what we are experiencing. And nothing I've seen addresses the problem that WE are the problem, or a good part of it.WE understand little or nothing of the internal political/religious/cultural/historical issues that are critical to any sort of solution in Iraq. so the question I have, given that, what the hell are we doing there and if we leave, how will it make things worse.
The key reason for the decrease in violence is al Sadr and his cease-fire. And we've seen proof of what happens when he twitches a little on that.
I guess, and I've heard nothing to the contrary, though it may be around, that a gradual disengagement or some sort of compromise solution, will only prolong the agony.
Reasonable people may certainly disagree, but I've not seen much reason used when it comes to dealing with Iraq - or the mid-east in general. We tend to ascribe our values and systems on cultures and peoples who we don't understand. I think the British made a similar mistake in the late 1700s with one of their colonies - with similar results.

I believe you're right about VN - they aren't the poster child for good government, but they are doing a damn sight better than when we were involved.
The regimes we sponsored were pretty repressive to say the least.
And the generals and SecDefs and others all were and still are saying the samo, samo...
And the troops are still dying.

Personally, I think serving in a Baghdad Hospital is WAY to easy for the likes of Doug Feith!!!
Perhaps sharing a cell with some of the folks presently staying in Gitmo would be a suitable plan- with a little water boarding on the side - just for funsies. Hey we could have Mr. Yoo along too. What fun!
Problem is that then we would become the monster ourselves. The real issue, and you nailed it, is that these folks live in total cognitive dissonance and far away from the factual reality of their actions. I don't really know how to get such people to see what they have done... sad to say.
It is up to us, the electorate to see that this sort of thing doesn't happen again. We, some of us anyway, who were around during the Westmoreland, Mac Namara and Laird years, learned some lessons - others who were too busy, or too stoned [though in the reserves] obviously, didn't learn those lessons.

It is really frustrating!!! No one, not even the bank seems to care.
My guess is that these folks are running this scam on many people simultaneously so the amount of money involved is significant.
The attitude is amazing - the little guy gets slammed again!

I know Hillary too, and I would prefer if she went back to NY - as the majority of Democratic voters have thus far said.
Of course, she may have to hitch-hike after her money runs out...
As I have said, her campaign will end with a whimper, not a bang. There will be no more funds, the money people just won't return the phone calls and it will end. It's just that simple.

It is a nice thought, expressed well, and totally out of touch with the real world. It does seem like a desperate call for HRC to rise. Plaintive and longing, and desperate.
Perhaps the end should read:
Go Home, Hillary.
Go Home.

You should cruise over to Talk Left (http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/3/31/113515/470) and post it there. It might bring some sense of sanity to their otherwise wasted, delusional world.
Of course, it would seriously fracture their little egos and who knows what they would do then. Probably all jam TPM and thrash everyone here - starting with Josh.
Or not, maybe they all really civilized wonks...
