  • The Foreign oil Football

I am ifrustrated as I watch the kicking around  of the latest political football;  new drilling leases to "decrease our dependency on foreign oil".  What the hell is "foreign oil"?  Isn't oil just oil- a commodity with its price established...more »

  • Another one bites the dust

The LA Times reports that a federal anthrax research scientist commits "apparent" suicide.   Conspiracy theories are frustrating, but... On his talk show last week, Thom Hartman explained a pet theory- it goes like this:  During the orchestrated fear-fest after 9-11...more »

  • To squeal or to skate?

Scott McClellan's latest effort makes me wonder which henchmen (henchpeople?) from this historic criminal enterprise will try to profit by spilling their guts and which will keep silent to make sure they stay on the PARDON list.  That list will...more »

  • Hillary's determination

Hillary Clinton's remarkable determination and adamant refusal to retreat may be due in part to a pragmatic understanding of her political base.   It may not be there next time. Election results, along with innumerable yaks and pollsters tell us her...more »

I'm sure the comparison has already been made somewhere-In  a recent re-watch of the Lord of The Rings movies I couldnt help seeing Hllary's face on Gollum.  She believes the nomination is hers.  Nasssty Obamas stole it and she wants...more »

  • It is human nature to repress and alter humiliating and painful memories. Ashcroft always seemed to me a bit less sociopathic than many of his superiors and colleagues, and the vestiges of humanity within him may have contributed to his memory loss. He nevertheless remains a turd.

  • McCain's mental fitness is not an issue as long as his wife has a good astrologer to help her run the country. This technique has already produced the poster administration for conservative Republicanism.

  • Anecdotally, I see a fundamental difference between the current situation and the Kerry debacle.
I have worked for 26 years at the same university, teaching and talking with students and eavesdropping on their conversations at the coffee stand (not for the faint-hearted). In 2004 the students did not give a rat's ass about George Bush or John Kerry, devoting the lion's share of their attention to their personal electronics and personal social circle.
Even today intense political emotion of the Vietnam era variety is not in evidence - I hear some Obama enthusiasm- but a much more pervasive conviction that the current administration is a nest of truly bogus and evil scam artists. There seems to be an almost quietly grim determination to dispose of them.
It is important to remember that most people under 30 ignore MSM and get all their information from the internet- insulating them from a lot of spin, and they only have cell phones - insulating them from pollsters. I believe the Obama campaign is the only one that is remotely attuned to this demographic.

  • Condi is a master at making the absurd sound reasonable. Luckily the admininstration never really capitalized on this talent. Imagine what a press secretary she would have made. We would still be dizzy. She often wraps her spin in revised semi-history. This works very well with people who know no history at all (an unfortunately large group). Its an easy way to fabricate credibility.
