Great article, Joe - love ya. Hope you are willing to leave the Senate and be the next Secretary of State.

I think we can all agree that Israel is quite capable of defending itself (should the ridiculous absurd scenario of an Iranian attack on them come to pass). In fact, they would massively retaliate with the arms we supplied them. I hope they don't use the arms they developed - the 200 or so nuclear weapons they have. As long as they have these, Iran will want nukes, too. But the subject of Israeli nuclear weapons is taboo while the legal Iranian pursuit of nuclear technology is treated as an international crime.
And this is not about the Jewish vote, which is admittedly small and decidedly progressive. It is about the Israeli lobby, which is overwhelmingly strong and decidedly right wing.

I doubt John Yoo and other torture apologists ever consider whether Saddam Hussein's people were out of control. Perhaps he had nothing to do with the torture and "rape rooms", etc. and it was just a few bad apples.

No way was this Bremer's decision. He is the functionary, the fall guy. I think bookish girl is on the right path: probably Feith, or Rumsfeld, or Wolfowitz. But at any rate, a high level political appointee right next to Bush. This "confusion" as to who did it is just a bunch of lies.

"... yet all but extreme, angry, illogical, and utterly estranged people will agree that Nader has no business again trying to tilt an election... "
Really. I guess it is extreme to believe in Palestinian rights. Or perhaps that one belongs to the "utterly estranged" category. How about single payer health care. 56% of doctors support that but if a citizen does, is he illogical or must he vote for someone who opposes this solution.
And the list goes on and on. You can't pigeonhole us into 2 parties, especially when the liberal one is especially unrepresentative of us.

I don't believe this was at all a comprehensive piece on Obama's foreign policy. In fact, it was myopic. It was all about Israel and fears in the pro-Israeli lobby that he may not be pro-Israeli enough. This stuff is very unfortunate but it is a real test that any serious candidate must pass: blind devotion to Israel. I guess they have to express blind oppositon to Castro's Cuba as well. No matter how irrational or against our real interests, this is what must be done. Weird.
