~Ahem~ The woman has a thing for heads bobbing up. Do you think she might be deliberately trying to be subliminally sexually suggestive?

  • The debate loser here was the moderator. She let Palin tromp around anywhere she wanted. How was Biden supposed to respond? To the moderator's questions, or to Palin's side-tracks?

  • Any bets how far Ifill will lean over backwards to prove that she is "fair"? This choice of moderator plays into the McCain/Palin team's hands very well. Not only is Ifill likely to go softer on Palin by asking predictable questions, but this gives McCain the perfect excuse to cry "gottcha media".

  • Seems to me there are two different groups of people who are against this bailout: 1) the majority of the public who detest having to bail out the fatcats who got us in this situation in the first place; and 2)the Ron Paulite-type of Republicans who are opposed to regulation of any kind. The two groups are politically incompatible, even though they are both against the bailout. The problem for the Dem leadership is to make clear that this is a failure of de-regulation, not a failure of too much regulation. McCain cannot conciliate between the wishes and needs of both groups, I suspect. But what I personally believe the Dem leadership needs to do is move on beyond this plan, perhaps start looking a nationalization solution.

  • I wonder if any of these Congresscritters have insisted on having access to the costs to date of secret attempts to bail out the failing system, such as those by the Plunge Protection Team.

  • Debate polls be damned. Let's see if the overall polls move even more in favor of Obama in, say, four or five days, especially in red states. Maybe I'm a pessimist, expect too much of my guy. Obama started out looking submissive, in too much agreement. McCain looked alpha.

  • Nope, McCain won by a bit. Obama needs to make the point better that McCain wants to spend our money, too, just that he wants to spend it over in the Middle East, while Obama himself would rather see it spent here at home. Same money, spent in different places. Obama started out weak, ended up stonger.

  • What this ad does is break a taboo about looking at someone's infirmity, the unwritten rule that tells you to look away, pretend you didn't notice. The ad practically forces people watching tv to look, and they're not comfortable breaking the taboo even in the privacy of their own homes. But it's a good quality ad, and it really did bring home the seriousness of McCain's prognosis, and the seriousness of McCain's not releasing the rest of his records. We need to stop tip-toeing around the issue and address it frankly, and insist that the records be released. It's our right to be informed as voters. Good for MSNBC for running it in the first place.

  • Dems need to push away from the table, tell the Republikans that when they've finally figured out what they want, let Dem committee members know so that negotiations can begin once again, but they are not interested in wasting their time once again on posturing, push their chairs under the table and LEAVE. Make the Repuglies come to them this time. The Dems MUST make the Repuglies own this problem or bow out.

Posted at September 25, 2008 11:57 PM in response to McCain: Pressure On Us To Have Debate Tomorrow Is Obama's Fault

  • I have this feeling that it has now hit home for McCain that, no matter how much his handlers have attempted to prepare Palin for the role, she is still ridiculously deficient, and his attempt to cancel the debates is really his ohfuckit, kick-the-dog tantrum. I think the debate cancellation IS the melt-down.
