  • remember who is running McCain's campaign: Steve Schmidt. Rove's protege. there's no better example of Rovian political tactics than to go all-out in accusing your opponent of doing exactly what you yourself are doing that's underhanded to muddy the waters.

the idea is to put yourself on an even playing ground in the eyes of the media, who equivocate desperately anyway, that "the 2 candidates are getting angry and going negative". this (ostensibly) pulls Obama down while you just do your thing spreading more dishonesty.

  • the Obama/Ayers association piece is fucking infuriating. there's NO STORY. they knew each other because they're both active in the Hyde Park political and academic circles of their community. so what? anybody reading the piece who's capable of critical thinking recognize that there's no story.

because there's a crazy guy on the school board i sit on and because i've seen him at a couple parties means... what? that i'm complicit in things he did 40 years ago? how does this shit even make print?

  • if she can make such a hash of an interview this weak, it's no wonder they want to keep her sequestered away from being asked questions by the rest of the media. and if she can't handle the media how on Earth is she going to handle foreign leaders or diplomats?

  • Fred Thompson is on a television show and doesn't have the chops to run anything even as big as a small presidential campaign. his insights into what makes a good leader will be invaluable.

it's hilarious that the Republicans wail about "celebrity" when the man they fall all over themselves trying to deify came to fame as a Hollywood actor: Ronald Reagan. oh, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the bodybuilder and action movie star turned REPUBLICAN governor of California. and Fred Thompson, the REPUBLICAN who makes his living doing a legal drama TV SHOW who ran for President just a few months ago.

but no, it's Barack Obama who's the celebrity just because he attracts lots of people to his speeches and rallies. as though that were a bad thing.

it's as though in order to be a Republican you have to have no sense of self-reflection or irony.

  • let Biden take foreign policy and let Obama pivot fully to domestic and economic policy. after the conventions, once everyone is paying attention, Obama will be the economy candidate with a strong FP VP and McCain will be the guy who doesn't know anything about the economy but is hawkish (and therefore experienced, according to the media) on the foreign policy front.
