  • I think there were three main reasons we invaded Iraq:
    1) to protect Israel and do their bidding. Remember the neo-cons were very tied into the Israeli lobby. Even today, we might see Israel attack Iran and drag us into another war. This reason is still "operative".

    2) oil. Cheney and the power-brokers know that oil is power. Japan basically started WWII (for them) because they needed oil, the "co-prosperity sphere".

    3) Junior wanted to show his Daddy that he was the bigger man.

From this standpoint, 1 & 3 are a success, and 2 is being worked on. Bush/Cheney feels like they succeeded. And Rove is still using the Iraq war for political reasons.

  • The VP pick for McCain is more important than usual, due to his advanced age. He would not qualify today as a Navy Commander, for example.

I can just see the same fascist cabal that Cheney put together running the country, while trying to keep McCan'tRemember from hitting the button in a hot-headed moment.

    Sigh.

  • McCain obviously cannot respond to this hard-hitting response. If he does, then he legitimizes Paris; and if he doesn't, he comes off as a coward.

Amazing that the progressive, intelligent, black guy is still in the race against the Establishment White Male. And now, McCain's sucker punch might make McCain into a sucker!

  • Ho hum. Another lie by the White House. Another internal investigation. What difference does it make if you lie and break the law, if nothing ever happens?

I used to think that being caught blatantly lying would cause one to lose credibility. For Bush, I guess, credibility is over-rated. He can lie continuously and nothing ever happens.

    Sigh.

  • If we leave Iraq soon, how will KBR and Halliburton, not to mention Blackwater, make all that money? And how can they keep giving to the Republicans if they lose their cash cow? And how could Cheney allocate the Iraq oilfields if the Iraqi's take over?

No, it won't do. For Halliburton's profit margin, the war must go on.

  • Let's get a few things straight:

    - governing the country is complicated and boring
    - the MSM is in business to make money
    - complicated and boring does not sell

There, that ought to do it.

  • This is quite common with the Bush admin. Here in Texas, the State AG's meeting some years back had a pricelist that was even posted in the Austin paper. 25K got you someone, 50K got you Rove, and 100K got you Bush, etc.

    Quite common, what's the problem?

  • Now THAT is a show of principle! When the going gets tough, jettison the problem people.

Now we need to ask McCain exactly *what* he learned that caused him to turn away from a top adviser. Is it a policy issue? or mere political expediency?

PS: John, we already know the answer, so don't lie.

  • Let's see, the AG resigned in disgrace, many US Attorneys were fired improperly, the current AG won't enforce the law, and all of the President's staff won't talk under oath, or even show up.

    heckuva job, Bushie!
