  • It is kind of interesting that in 2000 Al Gore was attacked as a serial exaggerator but McCain with his whoppers barely draws a blip in the national media.

Why lie about the Pittsburgh Steelers as the NFL team he chose as the names he gave the NVA under torture? It not only contradicted his book that it was the Packers but an interview he gave in 2005 when the book was made into a movie. It is an obvious pander to the Pennsylvania media.

If Al Gore made such a terrible lie, the story would have beaten to death by the media 24-7 for the entire campaign.

  • I understand the criticism of Obama on FISA and agree with it. It is when idiots take it to the next level that I am going to vote for McCain who is bad across the board on every issue.

I voted for Hillary in that joke we call a primary in Florida. I liked both candidates and basically did not care who won. Hillary got the edge because I thought her stand on health care was better than Obama. Yet the fear card she was playing on foreign policy began to turn me against her. Why she hired Mark Penn and let him turn her into a female version of George Bush, I will never know.

Still when you got beyond the silly campaign rhetoric, the difference between the two ideologically was small. How someone can support Hillary and then John McCain is beyond my comprehension.

  • Campaigns do send trolls to stir things up on bulletin boards and news discussion sites. On a politics discussion site at the Tampa Tribune, a GOP troll registered like 5 different ids to support his candidate for State Insurance Commissioner.

How could I tell? No one had talked about the insurance commissioner's race at all. Suddenly the board had new posters named "democrat" voter, soccer mom, gay voter, business man voter etc that wanted to talk about the race 24-7.

The imagination of the troll was not good and he had trouble remembering his phony ids. The business man would post as the soccer mom and the soccer mom might pop up as the gay voter.

The most interesting of the astroturf ids was the "gay voter." He was for the incumbent Bill Nelson (who later was elected to the US Senate) because he was for special rights for gay people. (the rhetoric used by the religous right against the amendment). It was clumsy and transparent.

The idea that Bill Nelson is a staunch crusader for gay rights is laughable to any one who knows Florida politics.

Maybe if Nelson's opponent had sent out a more talented troll, it would have been effective. This guy would cut and paste campaign press releases (minus the letterhead and campaign phone number) in his posts. This guy and his ids were on the board for two weeks before he ended up leaving.

  • AJM, that is plain nuts. I voted for Hillary in Florida but frankly I liked both candidates. I thought Hillary did more to damage Obama while Hillary's problem was the beating from the press particularly MSNBC with Matthews and Olbermanm.

You are particularly foolish if you allow the primary fight to vote for McCain who was bad on most of the issues even before he flip flopped to toe the Bush line on tax cuts, ANWR, oil drilling and torture.

Considering the disgraceful way Bush attacked him in 2000 by saying McCain adopted a black child out of wedlock, was the fag candidate, had a psychotic temper and was brainwashed POW, McCain sacrificed every principle he has to accept Bush's support. It did not even matter when Bush called his wife a drug addict and that McCain gave her VD.

If I took the type of personal attacks McCain did in 2000, it would be a cold day in hell beforre I would hug the man that did that to me.
The Hillary and Obama campaign is nothing like the war Republicans unleashed on eath other as well a stheir Democratic opponents. The John Kerry with a sun tan remark by Grover Norquist is Romper Room compared with what will be released on Obama in 2008.
