  • Of course some of the roots of our economic downturn our psychological. We are in a state of despair! Every time we gas up our vehicle, evem a hybrid, it feels like a punch in the nose. The cost of living requires debt, and debt removes savings. Those middle class individuals who responsibly owned a home now watch as their equity dries up because lenders played roulette with teh property market, thereby erasing what savings the average family may have had. Consumer confidence, the key "psychological" indicator, is at an all time low since its inception.

So, yes, Dr. Phil, the recession is psychological in nature. It is a psychological reaction to an economic meltdown at the hands of unaccountable financial charlatans who have committed yet ANOTHER margin loan scam sold by a pliant media.

ANOTHER margin loan scam. The same loans that presaged the panic of 1907, the crash of 1929, the crash of 1987, the meltdown of 2000, and the new and improved disaster of 2007 forward. Our man McCain was a key player in the crash of 1987 with his four other Keating buddies, so he has firsthand knowledge of how the scam works and how to get off scot free.

If McCain and Gramm want to spin the power of positive thinking on us, so be it. If they want to tell us that in order to overcome these times we must all purchase "The Secret" and follow it to the letter, then so be it. I will use my power of positive thinking to positively vote against him in November. What a bunch of schmucks!

  • The idea of candidates waving a magic wand to reduce the noise of the ever expanding lunatic fringe in this country is preposterous. We are a nation that is going insane from orthodox capitalism. The candidates are simply objects for us to project our insanity upon.

  • Most of her supporters will pull the lever for Obama. Most of her followers who insist that they will vote McCain were never for Hillary to begin with. They are dittoheads. Rush and Hannity gave them marching orders... because they have nothing better to do. McCain can not fire up the base, so the threat of a third Clinton term had to suffice.

Obama now has enough baggage to rally the base. The dirty work was done entirely by the Clinton campaign and the infotainment media. The general election can now begin because McCain can simply point to Obama and hint that he is a:

Weak, elite, empty-suit cult of personality that harbors secret muslim and black power alliances.

Hillary proved to be a marvelous trojan horse for the new Scaife funded Arkansas Project.

  • A solution has been reached which has been more than fair to Hillary and rewards Michigan and Florida for pushing their primaries forward. Now Michigan and Florida get to be front and center for the candidates and media because they have been "wronged" by their governments and the DNC.

A bunch of crap. Kudos to Hillary for helping to damage representative democracy!

  • He will make them all hold hands and scream Yes, we can.

    Gotalife:

I know that you are a troll and this response will have no effect on you.

    However:

Do you remember Donald Rumsfeld saying that the Iraqis were going to greet us as liberators?

Do you know that General Petraeus' strategy in Iraq is "winning hearts and minds"?

Can I forgive your ham-handed dig at Obama being a sissy in spite of the fact that you are accusing him of doing EXACTLY WHAT THE REPUBLICANS WANT TO DO IN IRAQ.

If Obama can get them to all hold hands and say "Yes We Can" in Arabic, then that is certainly better than the MONUMENTAL FUCK UP currently being perpetrated in the name of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

You are doing more than insulting Barack, you sniffering little dipshit. You are making light of those of us on the ground who are trying to implement a fundamentally unsound set of orders. If Obama could go to Sadr city and hold a rally, then good on him, because then my ass can get out of here to see my wife and child.

    You. Disgust. Me.

  • If you don't like or trust the followers, you probably won't like how the revolution of hope is carried out.

If I based my opinion on the fringe followers of any candidate or celebrity, I would never support anyone for any reason. I don't judge the merits of episodes of Star Trek based on the fanboys that attend a convention.

What you are describing is reeactionary thought. You are using the behavior of certain individuals to justify your beliefs. That is what is known as an external locus of control. You are ceding your intellectual authority to extremists.

I don't judge Hillary based on her abrasive internet supporters. I judge her based on her campaign and candidacy, which has thus fair failed to secure the majority of delegates in spite of a monumental lead in fundraising, networking, and brand name recognition that she held at the starting line.

Hillary's campaign is a boondoggle. It is the political equivalent of the Big Dig. She has squandered a 200 million dollar chest and is now operating substantially in the red. Her debts threaten to exceed her general election funds. Were she to secure the nomination, she would not have the financial leverage to campaign against McCain, who is being bankrolled by the RNC.

I want to make this distinction as simple as possible and in so doing transcend the "personal is political" bullshit that has turned civics into American Idol. Hillary and Obama's agenda, and the Democratic Party's agenda in general, are so similiar that debate occurs over the details instead of the big picture. Both candicacies are groundbreaking in terms of race and gender. HOWEVER: one candidate is operating in the black and has displayed a grassroots organizational machine that has outperformed the entire field of candidates. The other candidate is operating substantially in the red and offers NOTHING except image.

I suggest that everyone step away from the rancor that has permeated this campaign and simply view the bottom line. Who has what it takes to prevent a third Bush term? Who has conducted a campaign that eclipsed the presumed standard bearer?

Seriously: lick your wounds and rally around the nominee. Help to legitimize his victory and push forward through November and on to a Democratic majority. We have so much to accomplish. We have so many PROBLEMS that exist in spite of this silly season. We have gas prices, market collapse, the Iraqi occupation, climate change, trade deficits, nuclear proligeration, and above all we all need to heal from eight years of the politics of fear and anxiety.

  • I think the great ball of slime is overrated.

I just don't see the threat from 527s and red meat wedge issue politics playing with the same level of authority that they had 4 and 8 years ago.

Face it: Kerry was a weak candidate and folded under pressure. His campaign had poor funds and had to withdraw from campaigning during crucial 17 days that the Swift Boat Ads aired and gained national traction.

I daresay that lessons have been learned from all sides, and that the Obama campaign has so far shown an ability to beat the slime machine.

The only consequence is that he lost the Appalachian white vote... my Louisville friend still believes that Hillary is going to win: mark my words, he says. Well, I'm marking them.

I just don't see the same threat that everyone else is seeing. I daresay that this time around I am confident. I was not confindent in Kerry... the 2000 election broke my heart... but that is a story for another day.
