I don't know, I think I'd file this one in the self-deprecating humor department, not any dig at the troops (and he probably used injury to avoid pronunciation problems with "wounded").
Though bringing up purple hearts is a good point, doesn't anyone remember all those people on the floor of the RNC wearing those mocking purple heart stickers? Just, plain, horrible.

I expect to see General Pace "retired" by the end of the year.

Until recently there was a blog named "Liberals Against Terrorism." Does that mean that other liberals are for terrorism?

Tax reform in a few simple steps:
1. Eliminate the corporate income tax. Too many smart people running round doing nothing productive but making sure corporations pay less tax.
2. Eliminate the preferential rate for capital gains and dividends.
3. Repeal all tax credits.
4. Repeal the AMT.
5. Repeal the exclusion for muni bond interest.
6. Repeal the charitable deduction.
7. Raise the top rate.
8. Raise the estate tax exemption to something like $5 million, index it for inflation and lower the rate to the highest individual rate.
Unfortunately, tax reform is everyone's second choice.

Well let's put a check next to that category too. But you forgot about all the milk, honey, joy and a pony.

Ah, but you missed her more interesting comments, such as:
"You're concerned about war, and no one likes war," [Hughes] said. But, she said, "to preserve the peace sometimes my country believes war is necessary."
Yes, yes. Much more peace around here now that war has preserved it. Look, peace over there next to the White House, oops it was just arrested. But wait, peace just appeared in Baghdad, no wait just saw a female suicide bomber smiti that bit of peace. Perhaps it has been "preserved" in the cellar next to the canned peaches, let me go look....nope, all spoiled.
But wait, perhaps peace has been turned into war by the magic peace fairies who inhabit the White House. Yes that's it! Look at the peace spewing out all over Iraq, isn't it pretty?
She also had this charming thing to say:
"It is impossible to say that the plight of women was better under Saddam Hussein. Women were tortured, they had their children tortured in front of them."
Women tortured by the United States after we deposed Saddam? Check. Children tortured in front of their mothers by the United States? Not that I've heard of. So there you go, women must be better off after Saddam left because while they have been tortured, at least their children weren't tortured in front of them (maybe), and otherwise their days are filled with milk, honey, joy and a pony.
[I've posted this elsewhere in the blogosphere]

So how is Schumer going to vote, as his former Chief Counsel? Looked to me like he was going to vote yes.

I think, to be accurate and complete, you need to put Leahy's in comment that prompted the Specter comment you quote.

Which is exactly why they shouldn't be asked about specific cases, what if they change their mind in the interim?

I thought that Atrios had gotten all riled up about Roberts' potential involvement in Iran-Contra a few weeks ago for about and hour and then realized that it was a different John Roberts. Are we sure this is not the same thing?
