- : I am a family doctor fortunate to live and work in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan (hence UPDoc, for those of you wondering "What's UPDoc?"). I am owned-and sometimes pwned-by three dogs. I like to hike, snowshoe, take pictures of the North Woods, and work toward the day when we all have decent health care.

Gee, an ad with a friendly, smiling John McCain.
This wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that a Google search of "McCain" and "temper" gives you over 700,000 hits, would it? (Learned that on another blog today)Posted at August 28, 2008 6:30 PM in response to New McCain Ad Congratulates Obama

It might not be a bad idea to just put these crime kiddies on the stand and ask them enough well-framed questions that we can find out where the trail leads by which questions prompt them to plead the fifth.
I very much doubt that two guys many would pass over for a lawn-mowing job are at the bottom of the deal.

I guess I need a little education to understand a few of the comments above--exactly how, by what mechanism, would it be harmful to stockholders like me and loanholders like me to allow executives to have extravagant salaries up to a million dollars a year, rather than the spiraling greedfest that produces $300 million salaries and bank failures which result in the printing of hundreds of billions of new discount dollars to prevent collapse of the whole system?
I could quite well be missing something here, but the economic news of 2008 would seem to me to indicate that Mr. Baker's plan is prudent and worth serious consideration.

Supreme Court might be a good role for Hillary. I would have some reservations about her handling of trade issues-her family NAFTA'd all over my rust belt, after all-but I think we really should make better use of our ex-candidates. The treatment of Kerry, Mondale, and Dukakis always seemed a little harsh and wasteful of talent.
When I made a mess of things as a boy, my Dad & Mom didn't throw me out of the house. They lectured me long and hard about what was expected of me, made it very clear there would be quite significant consequences for further mess-ups, then put me back to the task of doing my best. I'd like to see the grown-ups of the Democratic party take the same approach.

In my field (Medicine) inflating a resume by even one claim of experience which is not fully documented is grounds for a no-hire decision or a dismissal. I trust that this is the case for many, if not most, employed Americans.
Would it be unfair to apply that same standard to the Leader of the Free World?

Hear,hear!
And as an Edwardsite until recently, wouldn't John Edwards skills be amazing in the renewed and returned-to-constitutionality post of Attorney General?

I just watched the Youtube video and I believe we should all write our Congresspersons tonight and demand the immediate awarding of medals for bravery under fire to Chelsea, Cheryl Crowe, Sinbad, Hillary, and that cute little kid who read the poem!
Oops, sorry, I took the snark filter out of my intertubes to clean it and that one slipped through.

Hey, as a practicing (meaning still trying to get the hang of it after five decades)Roman Catholic, I would be glad to have Senator McCain over to my church during Holy Week to learn about genuflecting correctly, say a Rosary, sing a few songs in Latin, and--hey, why not!--discuss our obligation to cherish and support the poor, the strangers, and the elderly. Actually, most of my progressive Protestant friends are pretty big on that last item, but the Latin and the genuflecting and the Rosary, well, not so much.
On a serious note, this continued pattern of disconnects with realities known to most of the high school kids in my little northwoods town is beginning to be alarming. Senator McCain, as I understand, wishes to be trusted with the teetering economy, our damaged image among the other nations of this world, and the (insert awkward silence here)nuclear weapon codes. Might it be fair to expect more?
