McCain & Clinton: Job Killers
So Hillary Clinton has joined John McCain in his call for a "holiday" in the federal gasoline tax. Of course we're all sick of high gas prices. But at least Barack Obama has the brains and courage to see that...more »

Me, Bill Ayers & Guilt by Association

An Elegant Solution for Florida and Michigan
David Broder has a typically lame column today on addressing the problem of seating delegations from Florida and Michigan. Of the various options thrown around, many seem to focus on (a) using the results of the discredited primaries; but (b)...more »

Gerson: The Audacity of Audacity
In this morning's WaPo, Michael Gerson audaciously judges that Barack Obama's speech on America's racial divide "fell short." But we must ask: As we mark the 5th anniversary of the disastrous decision to invade Iraq, who is Gerson to stand...more »

I don't think this is evidence that Obama is backing down from taking on McCain and the Republicans on national security. The problem for Obama here is that if he had maintained that posture on this issue, he would have been at odds with Congressional Democrats who caved into the Republicans.
Obama apparently doesn't want to create such tensions while still trying to unify the party after Clinton's concession. I don't agree with it but I understand it.

I just heard from a friend of a friend that his next door neighbor's dog says that Larry Johnson actually works for Dick Cheney. Johnson apparently first worked for Cheney when Johnson was a disinformation specialist at the CIA while Cheney was DOD Secretary under Bush I. According to this rumor, Johnson has maintained a front image as a liberal-leaning anti-terrorism expert so that he could plausibly disrupt the campaign of the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee with disinformation to head off threats to reverse the national security policies of Cheney/Bush. I have no idea if this dog is a credible source but I felt it was my patriotic duty to share this rumor on the slim chance that it might be true.

You're spot on in highlighting the potential problems related to governance if Hillary Clinton were elected VP. One of many major contributors to the dysfunction of the Bush administration was the fact that Dick Cheney lorded over his own independent center of power outside of the authority of the POTUS's chief of staff. It would be a huge mistake for Obama to permit a similar arrangement and it would be naive to assume that the Clintons wouldn't try to maximize their authority and influence. This would create an ongoing source of tension. Best not to go there.

By accepting, Obama would be offering an illegal campaign contribution to Hillary. It's the only way she'll be able to afford that much time on TV.

She has survived to fight another day. But her money is low and her negatives are high. The best she can hope for is to deny Obama the presidency so she can run in 2012. That's the only path open to her...

one_wilson: Here's something I posted elsewhere...
"It was the summer of 1972. I was working retail to pay for college. An FBI agent entered the store and flipped his badge at the boss. They talked in hushed tones. The FBI wanted to use a second-floor office for a stakeout. I later learned that they had a tip that Bill Ayers was going to visit a building across the street and they were trying to nab him. The stakeout room was also the place where I ate my bag lunch. So on this particular day I ate my peanut butter & jelly while a GMan peered through venetian blinds with binoculars. So the question is this: am I guilty by association for the many sins of the FBI during the Hoover Era because I ate lunch in the same room with an agent who was staking out Bill Ayers?"
How is this any different than Barack Obama having a casual relationship with a guy in the neighborhood? Does that make Obama responsible for something the guy did when Obama was eight? Do you have any direct evidence that Obama is now or ever was a Weather Underground sympathizer?Posted at April 19, 2008 6:49 PM in response to Stop Nonsense / Oppose Bufferbargering (S.N.O.B.)
