There is only one line that will be remembered from that entired exchange. "60% of what you say is crap"

Yeah we kicked Grover Bruce's ass here in Colorado. These clowns have lost the middle. Bill Owens. Hank Brown. The Republican base scares the hell out of people.

Science is simply a method of trying to understand how things work. It requires that theory be validated by experimental evidence. As such, it is the enemy of ideology. It is pragmatic. It needs to be willing to go where the data insists.
When your political coalition is heavily weighted with ideologes you are going to have an innate hostility to a world view that insists that you change your position as your data set changes. This is the opposite of the moral certitude required by dogma and the true believer.
When you add to this coalition business interests who have a financial stake in supressing information that can impact their bottom line you have a toxic brew that Chris has correctly identified. Mr. Pielke is intentionally obtuse regarding this matter as he is regarding many things.Posted at October 14, 2005 4:35 PM in response to There is No War on Science

I do believe we should be quite capable of doing both things at the same time. They are in fact mutually reinforcing. Crushing this fucking bug is just part of the process of uncovering the corruption and painting the boader picture. Taking pleasure in the process is simply one of the great benefits of being on the side of justice. Whistle while you work. Follow your bliss! Lock and Load.

Well honestly, when world production capacity is about 85 million barrels per day and world demand is about to go to 88 million barrels per day, what choice do you have?

So China played hardball with the recalcitrant rogue state and they blinked. Now if they can just get us out of Iraq.

"No real political leader" Over half the population has no real politcal leader. That is quite an indictment of the political leadership of this country isn't it?

Nothing is more bankrupt than the antique classification of social liberal and conservative labels and the endless pigeon-holing and classification of the electorate by the chattering classes.
These labels have become so corrupted by propaganda and sloganeering over the past fifty years that public opinion polls of a largely politcally apathetic populous are now less than meaningless. They are in fact wholy contradictory.
The old labels and traditional polarizations have fossilized leaving the populations frozen in them dissastisfied. We would do well to remember that the root of liberal is liberty. Freedom, as guarrenteed by the bill of rights. And as expanded by the liberal tradition. For example. Most Americans value a right to privacy. That is a liberal idea. An idea that is opposed by traditional conservative jurisprudence.
Where the bill of rights and an expanded reading of the constitution, a liberal interpretation of the constitution is put in the service of preventing government intrusion in our private lives, we will find overwhelming public support. It is the labeling, the branding that has become polluted.
There are numerous examples of an overlap between liberalism and libertarianism and these commonalities need to be mined to increase the appeal of and relevance of traditional liberalism.Posted at August 4, 2005 5:15 PM in response to the only way that democrats can regain a majority

Just looked at the clip. Sure seems like he was looking for an excuse to bolt. I think it had more to do with what was coming up than anything that JC said.
