It is an open insult to the American people to bring in two former presidents to beg Americans to donate. Bush should have, the moment the hurricane hit, released a ton of Fed dollars before sending his daddy and Clinton begging.
He has to beg, because we are in so deep in Iraq. He will face the American people knowing all the cuts for flood relief and FEMA happened on his watch. It is time for the Democratic House and Senate to stonewall Bush. The American people will back Bush into a corner because they are finally seeing the Emperor with no brains for what he is. Politicizing the horrible mishandling of the disaster event is required to finally and once and for all get the Republicans out of power. Katrina is the gateway to helping all of the citizens who are suffering and to bring our troops home to assist. Meanwhile, the death tax is the agenda item for the returning Congress. Go figure.Posted at September 1, 2005 1:48 PM in response to Is Bush Overwhelmed?

Lost in this discussion is the juxtaposition of the War in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina. The work on the New Orleans levies stopped or creeped to a slow down because Bush needed the money to kill civilians in Iraq, divide the country and place the potential for Civil War front and center. Clark's recommendations are the only ones that involve the entire region in a solution.
We need the 200 billion wasted on Iraq to help the refugees in Mississipi and Lousiana. Bush has a heck of a lot to answer for as our countries poorest are being moved from New Orleans to Texas to another "safer" superdome. Now Bush is claiming we need to protect the Iraqi oil. I think we need to call him out. Politicizing the Katrina disaster and laying blame at Bush's doorstep for the economic trainwresk in the aftermath of Katrina may also move the troop withdrawal more quickly, ala' Clark's recommendations.Posted at August 31, 2005 8:32 AM in response to Clark's Consistency

Larry, I am developing a crush on you. I rarely have a belly laugh while reading articles submitted to TPMCafe....The Daily Show comment sent me into gales of laughter! Jon Stewart better watch out...the actual workings(not working) you described is funnier than his show...OK I'm dying of curiosity, what song is playing while NSC plays virtual musical chairs?

The Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald just might win the Nobel Peace Prize if he can show the world through his investigation how Bush's inner circle were able to "fix" the war. Blair will end up discredited. Bush's cheesy rush into the Middle East, unmindful of their culture, their lack of WMD's and based on lies will be his legacy as well as Blairs. Innocent people are the victims of the terrorists hatred. Truth, Justice and the American Way rings more hollow daily.

I think the press is chompin' on the bit, ready to report more on Rove, Scooter et al. The WH press finally found their backbone...Or was it another part of their body....

Wow, talk about the WH framing the debate and changing the subject from Karl Rove to the Supreme Court nominee. Like good little soldiers we go right at it over abortion. I'd prefer new words to talk about reproductive rights..choosing choice and privacy sounds so much better than constantly talking about a rare and difficult decision women make.
I get a little woozy over Robert's wife as the former Executive Director of Feminists for Life..sounds like an oxymoran. Roberts will be confirmed, ho hum.
Rove is licking his chops because the media has taken up the nomination and left him in relative peace. Meanwhile, we wait for the Special Prosecutor to refocus all of us on the terrible lies that allowed Bush to take us into the Iraq war. Now thats a real story.

Ho Hum. Stay on the Rove story. Roberts will be confirmed. The Dems need to save their ammo for the real battle; taking down the WH inner circle.
The WH is hoping to divert attention away from the Rove story and wants nothing more than a prolonged fever-pitched dissection of Roberts on all the news channels. I favor a fever-pitched dissection of Bush's Brain.Posted at July 20, 2005 7:01 AM in response to Son of Rehnquist

So Bush hit a homerun for his base. For me, the most important matter isn't Robert's, it is Rove. I would hope all of us will resist becoming sucked into the confirmation and stay focused upon what could be the collapse of the Bush administation.
Turn off your TV's after Bush's announcemant and write LTE about the era of irresponsibility and lack of credibility in the run up to the war in Iraq. Don't fall for this Rove play..to deflect and deceive the American people..yet again.......

Since it is not Clements, my guess is, Bush will swing for the fences and appeal to his base.

Ed, you are playing my tune. I read you every chance I get. The time for responsibility is now. The Dems should consider using your idea for 2008, "the resposibility era." A tip of the toupee to you.
