  • Murdoch to endorse Obama?

This little nugget came from a story on Rupert Murdoch's gloomy  take on the economy at a recent conference:So is he optimistic about anything? Yes, he is: He's cautiously intrigued by... Barack Obama. Murdoch, who said that he was responsible...more »

  • Where are the Super Delegates?

It has been conventional wisdom, and I have also believed, that once Obama wrapped up the pledged delegate majority we would see a rapid consolidation of remaining super delegates behind him.  Yet since Obama crossed the pledged delegate threshold on...more »

  • Arlen Specter believes Obama would be tougher to defeat

PA GOP senator Arlen Specter said candidly on Bill Maher's show Friday night that Obama would be a tougher general election candidate than Hillary.  Also, Specter described Obama as a "phenomenon".  This coming from a GOP senator I think is generally regarded...more »

  • Clinton still losing without caucuses included

One of the arguments being put forth by the Clinton campaign is that the caucuses aren't truly representative of the popular will of the voters.  What logically follows is that even if she loses the pledged delegate race, the super...more »

Posted at July 23, 2008 11:32 PM in response to Vote Vets Ad: McCain Should Know Better Than To Occupy Iraq

  • Why would Obama need to attack? McCain is doing a fine job of that all by himself.

It's like they are preparing for a duel and McCain can't even get his pants on.

  • I would add to this discussion that in addition to his obvious knowledge and charisma, Obama is a great teacher as well.

The years spent teaching at U of Chicago clearly come through in his more sweeping and historical speeches. His ability to draw together his deep knowledge and historical facts into a language and context relevant and accessible to his audience is stunning.

I remember while listening to his race speech in Philly how easily I could imagine myself sitting in a classroom hearing the same words as a lecture. It is interesting, and thought provoking. Nothing like I've seen before in politics. It seems that he wants us to think and learn.

  • BTW... Bob Novak ran over someone in his car today and fled the scene.

Apparently the police didn't think it was a big deal because, you know, he's Bob Novak.

  • Good grief.

    Surge = 20,000 troop Escalation
Counterinsurgency strategy ≠ 20,000 troop escalation

  • How true.

    McCain's "Surge" = Rudy's "911"

  • Not surprised at all by these poll results.

    More Americans want out.

Iraqi government now says it's time to go.

Most people are going to react, "Well, what are we waiting for?!?"

What, indeed, are we waiting for?

McCain and the Bush administration will eventually be forced to capitulate or to redefine the mission, yet again, moving us one step closer to their true neocolonial aspirations.

If they "flip flop" on their prior commitment to respect the will of the Iraqi government (it is a sovereign after all, though I'll grant that Bush doesn't know what that word means) then let's just call a spade a spade. They will be usurping the sovereignty of Iraq and we will have ourselves a full fledged occupation.

  • Except for the basic problem that those same Republicans don't want to leave Iraq because they've been brainwashed into thinking it's the same as losing.
