Thank Ferraro, or thank the community?
In a 3-13-08 post entitled "Don’t Get It," Josh discussed the Ferraro meltdown and commented on a particular statement made by Ferraro trying (unsuccessfully) to defend herself. He stated: It took till the third round before I really got a...more »

Thank you, traveldad65, I was beginning to think that I was the only one who saw the so-called "not-quite handshake" this way -- McCain was introducing Cindy. He and Obama had already exchanged handshakes while Brokaw was doing his closing.

Actually, if Sen. McCain "jumped into his fighter jet [and] parachuted into the White House" it's more than "a sham," it's grand theft!! Remember, McCain was NOT a fighter pilot, he was a jet bomber pilot -- big difference, with the latter being low man on the aircraft carrier pilots' totem pole. (McCain never managed the skills to fly jet fighter.) So, if he jumped into a fighter jet, he was jumping into someone else's plane; and, if he parachuted, that's yet another plane lost under his command.

I agree with you ondioline: breaking the law, any law, is serious business -- admittedly there are different degrees of seriousness depending on the law and its purpose. But a law enforcement officer breaking the law, any law, is another matter altogether and is not to be tolerated. So, good -- Wooten was caught and disciplined for his illegal shoot. Was his punishment sufficient? Well, consider this (as I'm sure his superiors did): According to at least one account in my online reading from AK sources, Wooten's wife DID have the proper permit for the moose cow kill, and she DID accompany him on the hunt. I'm not a hunter and I have no idea whether or not there was some other restriction (beyond permit) making Wooten's action unlawful, but this little fact (if true) does seem to offer some degree of mitigation.

Obama may not have the scars McCain does, but he also doesn't have the after-effects of repeated beatings and concussions, the hair-trigger temper, the fading and often faulty memory (and possible Alzheimer's), difficulty concentrating, not to mention the general physical deterioration of 72 years, the need for weekends off, the wrinkles, the roving eye (firmly planted on Palin's a$$ during her 1st appearacne as his VP pick), the itchy ring finger (or even the itchy trigger finger), ...or any number of other things that McCain suffers from that should make people think twice about voting for this aging and damaged man.

Well, looks like Palin managed to cow WaPo and Mr. Balz (kinda of ironic name given the circumstances) with her attack on the media!!
BTW, that much vaunted mayoral experience? Not so much! GOP power-brokers forced Palin to hire a city administrator to run Wasilla when she came close to provoking a recall because of irrational and unconscionable firings (like firing the City Librarian because she would not consider banning certain books).
For more on Palin from someone who's known her since '92 (homemaker Anne Kilkenny), check out http://www.andrys.com/palin-kilkenny.html. If only half of the information here is true, Palin is very bad news -- typical Republican piranha.

If you haven't read this email/comment (link below) from Anne Kilkenny regarding her 16-year experience with Sarah Palin, DO IT!! Ms. Kilkenny has a lot to say, for example, that reformer image? Not so much. According to Ms. Kilkenny (a homemaker with no ax to grind and nothing to lose), word is that Palin outed GOP chair Ruedrich's shenanigans as an excuse to get out of a job she hated. She'd been appointed a plum job (by then-governor Murkowski) as Chair of the Oil & Gas Conservation Commission. Palin had absolutely no oil and gas experience and soon learned that she hated the work. When she got wind of Ruedrich's misdeeds, she saw a way to get out of the job and look good doing it!!
Anyhooo, the whole Kilkenny email is quite revealing; and if even half of it is true, Palin could be worse than anyone imagines.

You might want to update your understanding of the Jewish Messiah "as a warlord and restorer of his people's greatness" -- the Jewish people did back in the days of the prophets. For that matter, your understanding of the personal Messiah (the earliest concept in Jewish Messianic thinking which ultimately gave way to the idea of Messianic times) as a "warlord" is off the mark, too.

Nothing, if "Steve Christopher" were Jewish. But then Tinker would have to be more explicit in her anti-semitism because she couldn't count on his name to show he's Jewish. But if "Steve Christopher" were Christian, I'd guess that, at the very least, the "our churches" part wouldn't be there. More likely though, the entire ad would have been different and neither Steve's religion nor his old state senate vote (which Cohen's spokesman denies) would have been mentioned.
