  • I've noticed that too. In their never ending attempt to appear "fair", the media has been claiming that both sides are now taking the gloves off. They cite McCain's sleazy ads and then imply that Obama is just as bad because he says McCain is being erratic. Good lord.

  • My biggest concern is the debate format. The questions may be coming from voters, but Brokaw gets to decide which questions get asked.

Tom has a very high opinion of himself and he probably thinks he knows, better than the voters, which quesions are really important.

  • True that. It kills me to see all these Repbulicans wringing their hands and bemoaning the nasty partisanship. Do they not remember their own Newt and GOPAC calling for demonizing Democrats?

  • I'd like to see McCain flame out in the debate tonight, but I'm worried about the format.

It's being held at a Baptist college in a red state, and the questions are going to be picked by Tom Brokaw. Do you think Tom will focus on questions about the economy, or Iraq, or health care? Or will he sift through them to find the ones HE thinks the average "Joe Sixpack" wants to ask. Questions about Ayres? Flag pins? Has Obama really quit smoking?

The town hall format is supposed to allow the voters to ask about what's important to them, but I don't like the idea that Brokaw gets to decide which questions to ask.

  • I saw this clip on the NBC nightly news. I didn't hear anyone yell "terrorist", but it was still damn scary just hearing that crowd roar and boo. And the scariest shit? THe look on McCain's face. He was really eating it up, he loved the crowd response. He probably thinks he's going to sail in to tomorrows debate on a high.

  • Hey, don't forget New Hampshire gave the country Franklin Pierce!

Another thing about NH besides its libertarian streak - they're not overly religious up here. Remember Dean in 2004 trying to explain that New Englanders don't wear their religion on their sleeves? It's nobody else's business where you go to church.

In that respect, Palin may have hurt McCain more than help. A lot of people still remember the McCain of 2000 and liked his "maverickiness", but right wing religious zealots tend to turn peole off.
