  • McCain is outspending Obama in ad buys, however they're basically spending the same amount of money - Obama is just spending his money on the ground with GOTV registration, field offices and paid staffers. All laying the groundwork for a massive volunteer influx when the colleges get back in from summer break.

Obama is banking on word-of-mouth being more powerful that television ads.

  • That's a lot of money. And I assume the bigger package buyers will have the plum spots, including the break before the US team enters and the break before the lighting of the torch.

Have all spots been sold, or can McCain rush out and buy a package as well?

I would assume it will be an ad with Barack and his VP, and will be all about the two and their vision, but it better be a helluva ad. Do we know the length of the ad? 30 seconds or a minute?

Posted at July 23, 2008 5:52 PM in response to McCain's Pushback On Timing Flub: The Surge Began Before The Surge

  • So the "Surge" McCain has been talking about is just short for In- surge -ncy. Umm...No.

However even if the MSM wanted to accept this, it still doesn't explain away the fact that McCain said the troop surge allowed the US to protect the sheiks which led to the Anbar Uprising. That's is patently false. So either he doesn't know what is going on, or he does and he decided to lie about it.

And the surge McCain has always referenced has been the troop surge. This latest "explanation" is nothing but pure spin and nobody should accept it.

Posted at July 23, 2008 5:43 PM in response to McCain Surrogate: The Truth About Iraq Undermines Our Troops

  • That spin attempt is ridiculous. That's not what he said.

McCain: I don't know how you respond to something that is as-- such a false depiction of what actually happened. Colonel MacFarland was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history.

McCain plainly states that because of the surge the US was able to protect "that Sheik and others". While it is fact that the Sheiks and their followers made their move weeks before any mention of a surge.

Even if you accept the premise that "The Surge" is an all encapsulating operation and not simply the addition of 30,000 or so troops, it still doesn't explain the fact that McCain claimed the additional troops allowed the Sunni sheiks to stand up to Al Qaeda - that is simply false. And "the surge" to McCain has always been the additional troops on the ground and nothing more.

In all seriousness this should end his campaign if the MSM didn't have a horse in the race and desperate for a close contest.
