AWESOME - watch as McCain's own panelist slams the candidate's energy policy.
Fantastic stuff. The McCain campaign apparently selected this guy to sit on a panel with Johnny Mac, but why? After McCain loudly sings his praises, he goes on to pick apart the centerpieces of McCain's energy platform. I laughed, I cried...more »

Not going to the mat? What makes YOU so smart?
Most readers here at TPM seem to be under the impression that this nomination fight will end long before August. Until recently I counted myself among them. Now, however, I am not so sure. Despite assurances from Speaker Pelosi that she...more »

With all the talk surrounding Florida, Michigan and Senator Clinton's reasons for remaining in the race, there is one result that maybe is being overlooked...Senator Clinton is just a few delegates away from being completed eliminated from contention. If you...more »

I hesitate to write this, for it risks pushing some important posts off the recently-added list. However, I think it is important enough to warrant a small discussion, particularly since I believe it will get no movement from TPM site...more »

Now don't go getting all excited...
As you're probably already aware (being a TPM reader and all), the recent PPP survey out of Pennsylvania shows Senator Obama with a 3 percent lead over Senator Clinton. While encouraging, the difference is statistically insignificant. The real usefulness of the...more »

Senator Clinton/vs. Hillary
I can admit to holding very little respect for Senator Clinton. My disregard stems from several reasons which personally I consider to carry relevance, such as her voting record among others.Nevertheless, I think it is inappropriate to refer to her...more »

Any thoughts on Indiana?
Surveying the race for the Democratic nomination in a geo-political context, there appears to be a "belt" of Americans who generally support Senator Clinton. However, the only polling I have seen from Indiana shows strong support of Senator Obama and...more »

Sheesh! I got it now. Was using a 'less-than' character - which of course was interpreted as the beginning of an HTML tag. So dumb. Last try:
Of the under $25k folks who already plan to cast a ballot for McCain, how many do you think will change their minds due to his tax policy?

There is a third possibility. McCain's rejection of Bush's tax policies from 2000 through 2003 may have been more politically motivated than his current economic position. That is to say, he may have exaggerated his opposition to those policies at the time in order to bolster his reputation as a maverick.
Interesting thought. However, if he was so easily inclined to misstate his position circa 00-03, why come with the Truth Stick now, when presumably it could potentially hurt him badly in the general?
The only possibility I can immediately devise (though admittedly lame) is that he is attempting to shore up support where he needs it, and simply writing off voters who either 1) wouldn't vote for him anyway or 2) work two 9-5s to make that $19k-$25k and don't have the time or perhaps the educational background of the $2.9M folks to properly research and understand his tax plan.
It's a dogwhistle to be heard (he hopes) only by the "wealthy, educated elite" with whom our friend Senator Obama is predicted to do well, thereby attempting to cull their votes. Conversely, of the

Thank you, thank you, thank you for choosing the word "prisoner" instead of "detainee".
Someone is "detained" by the authorities when they are under suspicion, pending an arrest.
When you've been locked up effectively incommunicado in a maximum security military prison for years on end, I submit you have ceased existence as a detainee. You are nothing less than a prisoner.
Detainee is nothing more than a euphemism spread by the administration, and accepted unfailingly by the MSM, which serves to blunt the impact of incarcerating people for years with no legal recourse and no end in sight. There are no detainees at Guantanamo - only prisoners.

Well, fair enough.
I have no doubt of your committment to President Obama. Though I should respectfully point out the position you have described does not fully support him in every way you can, because he has directly called on us to donate to the DNC.
More than just monetary support of Reid and Pelosi (which undeniably your $$$ would be), our contributions, or lack thereof, do on some level serve as referendum on the viability of the very politicoeconomic model that is the hallmark of Obamanomics. Basically, by adopting his fundraisinig policies, the DNC is saying "Okay, Obama, we'll try it your way."
The success or failure of 'his way', now rests squarely on our shoulders (and wallets) and ours alone. If you can see past your disdain for Reid and Pelosi (which I can fully appreciate) and instead focus on the bigger prize - namely that Obama is trying here to change the entire way the game is played, do you think you might be willing to send in a few bucks? Anything would help.
Thanks!
