  • I too was surprised by this- just because earlier polling showed men lagging women in support for Obama.
But, hey-a lady in power who uses her position to browbeat her subordinates in a vendetta against an ex-brother-in-law? That's likely to resonate with the menfolk.

  • I am kind of leery of this. I doubt John McCain ever pushes a shopping cart around, much less had one of his kids tagging along. The McCains pay other people to do their shopping and watch their kids.

  • Meghan McCain posted pictures and updates about this trip on her blog which is titled "McCain Blogette: Musings and Pop Culture on the Political Trail."

Here are some pics pics of them arriving at their hotel in Vietnam.

So are they saying the trip was a political stunt or a humanitarian trip or maybe they just don't know the difference.

  • First of all, it is hard to get bipartisan good will, when you can't face the other side and LOOK in their eyes.

  • A candidate isn't just selling him/herself in a political campaign.
They also have an opponent to deal with.

I've heard it said that the GOP is a 3 legged stool with national security hawks, social conservatives and fiscal conservatives as the 3 legs. The financial mess and bailout has caused a big riff within the party. The GOP stool is tottering. So why not jiggle another leg?

  • Not sure if this is strategy or tactic.
Was Obama trying to get a response from McCain that would needle the fundies right before Palin's big moment? If McCain says Sarah agrees with him on stem cell research, you can bet they will go ballistic. They are hoping she turns him around.

Is Obama's ad and McCain's response setting up Ifill to ask Sarah if she supports stem cell research?

  • I've heard that McCain reads a lot- mainly war stuff.
So he has a lot of little stories to throw in even when they do not fit the question or discussion.

Maybe it is just a woman thing, but I found it really disturbing that McCain wouldn't look at Obama or talk to him. He seems so stubborn. He talks about stuff he has read or his experiences, but McCain doesn't seem able to really listen to someone or pick up on what they are saying. He just imposes himself. Look for his rating among women to go down.

  • There is a lot of info here, but also a lot that is missing.
Palin may have rejected spending requests by her line item vetoes and STILL spent more than the previous governor. So how do her earmarks (asked for and received) compare with the previous governor and how does her spending compare? Vetoing the most spending can be a misleading statistic.

For the record, has Sarah Palin EVER sent any earmark money BACK to federal government? When I say "Thanks, but no thanks," I do not keep what was offered. But it seems as if Sarah Palin does. She just doesn't spend it on what Congress intended.

  • The GOP seem to be ignoring quite a few FACTS. George Bush had executive experience. Heck, he was governor for 8 yrs of a state that was both big in size and in population. It was near to some foreign country too. And with W at the helm, the vast majority of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction.

  • A Followup Question for McCain:
Do the service men and women coming home from years in Iraq have the same opportunities to achieve the American Dream that he had? If so, why are so many of them suffering financially (and otherwise)? Is it because they are not as good as McCain at taking advantage of America's opportunities or is it because the opportunities themselves suck today?
