When will the Media put "Country First?"
Seriously. I know Gov. Palin is a media darling, and sells lots of newspapers and raises viewership. But we need the Media to be heroes again. This Country needs the Fourth Estate to stand strong for the greater good,...more »

True Number of US fatalities in Iraq and candidates silence
Last night a veteran shared that the official number, just over 4000, of US servicemembers who have died in Iraq is inaccurate. He said that the fatalities do not include military personnel who die from their traumatic injuries while in...more »

A moderate Republican view on Tavis vs. Obama
Consider the moment. What if Sen. Obama were to attend Tavis Smiley's SOTBU event? Perhaps the Senator could deliver a 15 to 20 minute speech, not on the distinctions, but on why the Issues concerning African-Americans are issues that concern...more »

D. Lindley Young. Stop it.
You know in your heart of hearts that Obama has never called anyone a "gun-toting racist xenophobe."
You know this.
It is your first amendment right to distort, but it is also the epitome of selfishness, as well as unpatriotic to promote political junk for our fragile republic.
If you love America D. Lindley Young, stop lying.

anyone check to see what the Canadians were doing too? Maybe even Europe?
If other countries had scrambled too, then it might have been an unreported UFO event. Or we were showing someone or group to think twice about pulling off whatever.
Either way, seems like we're still okay.

Interesting post Billy.
If Camp McCain feels that Palin is qualified for the ticket, then they must also feel that her extreme views are right for America.
Extreme take on Reproductive Rights
Distorting her public record on earmarks
and keeping the lower 48s money anywayTodd's (and apparently hers as well) AIP separatist views
Billy is right. Keep it about John McCain's judgment.
Camp McCain should have to defend and cosign her positions in a public forum. Everyday and everywhere.

No longer watching MSNBC on election night. Guess I'll shuffle back to CNN. David Gregory is a limp noodle. No sense of true reporting every since he left the WH press corp.
If the MSM hands this election over to John "Hey Lady, take that!" McCain, then we're done as a democracy. Then again we're not one anyway.
Freedom of de-press?

Having called Palin's pick months ago, it was intriguing to watch this woman so comfortable in her own skin, deliver the speech of her lifetime, or at least of a generation, by a Republican woman.
Even if McCain loses in November, it will be a more respectable and diginified loss. She is a "pitbull with lipstick." Which by definition should disqualify her from being a heartbeat away from the most influential office in the Free World. Pitbulls attack, maim, kill because they are trained to. Not because they must.
Just as an angry generation can not bring about peace, a divisive, mocking, and deceitful campaign can't deliver change for the common good.
We can do better.

What the heck is wrong with you people?
I've been a Republican most of my adult life and I've never seen such cannibalization. We lost John McCain back in 2000, yet you folks are so caught up in this ridiculous back and forth, we hate ourselves B.S. that you're willing to eat your own head and hearts for a third Bush term.
Is this what our country deserves? More hatred and invective from within? Our troops, our children, our parents, and our planet are counting on us to rise above and figure out a way to progress.
If you so-called democrats are the best hope of a better day ahead, then i pray for my children and my country.
Obama-Biden. It's done. Get over it, and win for a change.

I can't answer those. And yes, Wes stumbled badly out the gate.
All I know is that when I worked for her in Europe, Claudia Kennedy was a stand up, no-nonsense, let's just "get'er done," type of commander.
Solid on Intelligence matters. Way more experience than McCain in all matters military.
Even though she's the second slot, I think it would be historic to have two women on the national ballot.
She's blogged over at HuffPo. Seems articulate enough. She could provides a nice counterweight to a Fiorina pick.

Okay, I will be more specific.
"How does that affect your candidate's VP choice, strategy and chances in November, and actions pre-convention? How would you respond?"
If McCain chooses Fiorina, I feel that ups the ante on Obama picking a woman as well. And if he were to pick one, I purpose Gen. Claudia Kennedy.
I think I answered your question.
BTW, unfortunate it is that you know who McCain's opponent is, yet you couldn't bring yourself to write his name (Obama!)
Apparently not ready to put the primaries behind you.
Thanks for allowing others to exercise the First Amendment.

As a republican, I like the General. But Powell as VP is not turning the page of history. It would also be a diss to the energized gender politics of the moment.
Again allow me to forward an idea I've advocated for on other posts.
Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Claudia Kennedy could be a near flawless choice for Obama.
Former Military Intelligence commander. Big supporter of John Kerry in '04. Best part, she outranks McCain. He would have to salute her. No one could question her defense and Intelligence credentials. Please consider the brief bio below.
"Claudia J. Kennedy is the first and only woman to achieve the rank of three-star general in the United States Army, taking her from the Women’s Army Corps in the late 1960s to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff for Army Intelligence from 1997 to 2000. She oversaw policies and operations affecting 45,000 people stationed worldwide with a budget of nearly $1 billion.
Following in her father’s footsteps, General Kennedy joined the Army in 1968. In 1969, she was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. During her career, she commanded a company, an intelligence battalion, a recruiting battalion and an intelligence brigade. As a general officer, she served as the senior intelligence officer for the U.S. Forces Command, Deputy Commanding General for the Army Intelligence Center and School and completing her career as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence.General Kennedy received numerous honors and awards during her military career, including the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the Army Distinguished Service Medal and four Legions of Merits..."
Outside of Clinton or Gov. Sebelius, why not have a trailblazing woman like Gen. Kennedy, who has served her country with distinction?
A woman first. A career soldier always. A Democrat.
Thoughts?
