  • On Michigan and Sen. Clinton's so-called popular vote lead

In Michigan, Barack Obama wasn't on the ballot, but Obama's Michigan supporters told people to go to the polls anyways and vote "uncommitted." Here's a great exit poll from MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21225987/)----------------------------------------------If these had been the candidates on the ballot today,...more »

  • Looks like Tinker has done things like this before. Here's a news clip about one of her ads suggesting Cohen may be a racist:

  • Well, if the guy is judged to be mentally sound enough to stand trial, than I would consider it an act of terrorism. But if he's wacko you can't call it that or blame O'Reilly et al.

Remember that Hinckley said he shot Reagan as an act of love for Jodie Foster, a liberal. However, Hinckley's insanity should preclude any charges of terrorism or incitement to terrorism.

  • Now, now, everyone: be nice. Of the several threats to Obama's chances for victory, the ego of Clinton supporters is likely the easiest to overcome. Hardcore Hilary lovers will scrape up every insult that they can find on liberal blogs and email them to their friends.

Posted at July 8, 2008 3:24 PM in response to Associated Press: Pet Owners Prefer McCain To "Petless" Obama

  • Well I was going to vote for Obama, but now that I've learned of his plans to give a few million dollars to religous institutions, I think I'll vote for McCain (who may spend a few billion dollars on the religious institutions). That may seem foolish, but I am a perfectionist. I'd rather order a burger than eat a salad that isn't vegan friendly.

    But seriously...

There are many areas of this country where churches are still the only organizations capable of organizing poverty relief, disaster relief, etc. Building a YMCA in the middle of rural Kansas is horribly inefficient. As long as federal funds do not directly assist proselytizing, we shouldn't be offended.
Of course, in the long run the atheist should support investments in secular institutions which reach all Americans, such as public schools and universities, hospitals, and maybe even FEMA if we get really crazy.

  • I'm guessing this is a bogus story. If one is speaking to former Hilary supporters, the best thing to do is to focus on the issues (which you did) and try not to sound holier-than-thou (which you didn't). Attempting to implement the Socratic Method in a conversation rarely works in the real world, and I would advise against it.
Avoid arguments with them at all costs. Be polite, and compliment Senator Clinton whenever possible. Eventually it will become clear to everyone that McCain really is a Republican, and the rational 95% of Clinton supporters will rally to Obama.

  • First, I'm no Gingrich fan, but thats just quoting a stupid thought out of context. When one is accusing an American of treason, one should provide at least a whole paragraph. He appears to be saying that hypothetically, if another terrorist attack inside the US happened, it would prove the conservative argument that civil liberties should be restricted to fight terrorism.

Second, imagine if a well-known liberal said,
"...it's almost like they should every once in a while have allowed an attack to get through just to let us know how invading Iraq made us less safe..." My guess is that Fox News would be on it like white on rice for a week.

  • Much of the Republican strategy in the Fall will involve explicitly challenging Obama's competence and experience in dealing with "terror."
Meanwhile, expect third parties technically outside McCain's control to go after Obama personally and imply he is unpatriotic and prejudiced against poor whites.
Expect the Clinton-Obama rift to continue, to some significant degree, into the fall even if she endorses him.

So General Clark seems the optimal choice, primarily because of his biography as a four star general and war hero. He graduated valedictorian of his class from West Point, and earned a bronze star, silver star, and purple heart in Vietnam. This makes the Obama-Clark ticket kind of hard to characterize as pacifist, pro-Hamas, etc.
Second, as horrible as it sounds, his "all American" name and looks could help with Obama's Appalachian problem.
Thirdly.....and this will really piss some of you off.....he endorsed Sen Clinton. This might help to soothe some ruffles among the Clinton loyalists out there.

  • 57 left. When it happens, it will happen quickly. In retrospect we will all know that Sen. Clinton has been the solid runner-up since North Carolina and Indiana.
