Endgame Signals?
As Josh pointed out on the home page, Politico has an article up essentially stating that the media has kept the Clinton candidacy afloat. Does this signal a shift in how the campaign will be covered in the wider media?...more »

Why I'm Happy the Campaign Continues and Why I Wish it Would End
I am a man conflicted - I'm glad the campaign for the Democratic nomination is still going, but I wish it were over yesterday. Glad because finally, for the first time in my life, my primary vote will actually count...more »

THE Campaign Narrative: MSM (Money Sweet Money)
There's been a lot of talk about campaign narratives this year. Who's up, who's down, what's going on, how is this speech or that late breaking event affecting my candidate? The networks are loving it! 9 million viewers to watch...more »

My mother-in-law, who lives with us, just got the mailer. She only has a cell-phone, so I don't thin she received the pre-call. We're in Oregon and the mailer came on the last day to register for the primary, so sending it in wouldn't have done any good for the primary.
I'm pretty sure she's already registered, but we moved last year, so who knows. My wife didn't get the mailer, but she's definitely registered to vote.
I'm going to take another look at the flyer to see if I see anything sketchy (aside from the flyer itself which I didn't trust for a moment...The identifying organization was written so small it took me a bit to find it.)

Oregon is Obama country judging from the balance of signs, bumper stickers and the general demographic of the state. I would expect at least a 10% win here.
FlyOnTheWall did a post on the demographic fatalism to which we are subject and it has been fairly prescient. I'll have to go back and read it again to see how his predictions stack up to reality.

But not to a caucus! Ninjas take swords to caucuses and kill all who dare oppose them! You'll never see Rambo at a Caucus. Or Crowe. They fear the ninjas.

Well, you know, it's complicated man, I mean there's lots of ins, lots of outs lots of whathaveyas.
And I'm disappointed that you would try to throw me under the bus with such Rovian tactics. I'm shocked that you would question my honesty. Are you a nihilist or something?

Not just words. Powerful words. Words imbued with power. The power of sushi, which is Japanese. Ninjas come from Japan. Ninjas are powerful. Powerful Ninjas - Powerful Words. Sushi.

You people are missing the restaurant for the food. It's not about WHAT he ate. It's about WHERE he ate it and the sound judgment he used in making that decision.
The next place has sushi. Foreign experience and good judgment you can count on.

I think that it is more than just the two candidates grasp of "New" media. They seem to have fundamentally different views of how to "do" politics. Clinton continues to use the tactics and strategies that were used (and worked) in the 90s - old tactics, new tools.
Obama sees (correctly in my estimation) that the old strategies and tactics won't work. In fact, not only will they not work, they will be counterproductive. This goes for his campaign as well as his politics.
I think one of the reasons this fight has seemed so ugly is because we are in the transitional period between the old and the new - the new ready to take power, the old not wanting to give it up and both not understanding the other's viewpoint. I also think this is why we've seen the split in age groups for the candidates.
I think it's healthy to some extent, but it's also painful.
