Hill's Superdelegate/PA Gov. Rendell: Elitist or Realist?
While freeing up some memory on my DVR, I stumbled across an interesting exchange between Hillary Clinton superdelegate/PA Governor Ed Rendell and Bill Maher. From the February 29, 2008 edition of Real Time ...Bill Maher:
How many rednecks are there in...more »

Bush Abstinence-Only Crusade Exported=Death In Africa
I've now outlined how Bush's Abstinence-Only Crusade=1/4 Of Teenage Girls Get STDs and how Bush's Abstinence-Only Crusade=Big Money For Religious Right. Still, even with the explosion of these abstinence-only programs (and the directly related decline of comprehensive sex ed programs),...more »

Bush's Abstinence-Only Crusade=Big Money For Religious Right
Previously, in Bush's Abstinence-Only Crusade=1/4 Of Teenage Girls Get STDs, I connected Bush's abstinence-only crusade to the high rate of STDs among America's teenage girls. Today I delve into the real motivation behind yet another harmful Bush policy. What makes the...more »

Bush's Abstinence-Only Crusade=1/4 Of Teenage Girls Get STDs

MCain's Ties To Lobbyists = Telecom Immunity
Everyone's all a titter about Sen. John McCain's "inappropriate relationship" with lobbyist Vicki Iseman. I personally could care less whether or not the self-confessed Senior Adulterer from Arizona and Iseman are romantically entangled (other than the mere thought of McCain entangling...more »

The Canadians are none to happy with us. Among the Gitmo show trials scheduled in the run up to election day is Canadian citizen Omar Khadr. McGill Reporter from October 2007's "Guantanamo Bay: Justice denied":
So we have a Canadian citizen, arrested at 15, detained without charges for years, subjected to brutal interrogation methods, with virtually no hope for a fair trial—what can be done? Kuebler ends with a plea: Canada must repatriate Khadr so he can face a fair trial in this country. "If you are concerned about the treatment and respect for the rights of a fellow Canadian citizen, don't wait for the Military Commissions, the US Federal Courts, the executive branch, or Congress to allay your concerns," he says. "If anything is going to be done for this particular Canadian, if his rights are going to be protected, it is only because the Canadian people and the Canadian government act to protect them."
With no expectation that Bush will change his posture, our relations with our northern neighbor will get a whole lot worse before they get better.

This is bat shit crazy. Reyes better watch his step or he'll be back working Border Patrol. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, he's known for missing votes and not knowing whether al-Qaeda or Hezbollah are Sunni or Shiite. Let's hope Reyes synapses are misfiring and act as if they are not.
Telecom immunity is inappropriate. Period. It's doubly inappropriate to grant secret courts the power to make this type of unconstitutional decision.

Like this is news. The Bush Administration has done everything possible to obstruct the GAO while systematically starving it of resources. It's all part of the plan.

Yes, we should have public financing for campaigns. We'd get more higher quality candidates less susceptible to corruption. But we don't yet have public financing.
Regardless I find it troubling that a Congresswoman, especially a Democrat, should have screwed up her finances so royally for any reason. If she thinks that her mortgage problems with three homes will endear her further to her constituents, she is sadly mistaken.
Dems like Richardson make it that much more difficult for us to both claim the moral high ground and portray our party as that of fiscal responsibility.

'Trix,
I think Lord Acton said it best, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Renzi's power, while not absolute, still offered a temptation he couldn't resist. I don't think Acton could have anticipated the extent of the power wielded by our lesser modern politicians.
What surprises is that none of our recent Presidents have yet been implicated in the type of corruption repeatedly found at the highest levels of some foreign governments i.e. Italy, Israel. Then again, I'm sure we'll be finding out some very interesting things about GWB next year. He and his can't bury everything.
As for getting records from McCain, don't hold your breath. He'll be taking his own sweet time on that like he does with any sort of required public disclosure.

I find it hard to believe that Addington, Yoo, Ashcroft or Feith will ever stand before Congress to answer any questions. This is just another stalling technique. When their time to appear rolls around, they'll either have a back ache, need to wash their hair, be otherwise indisposed or the White House will claim executive privilege.
That way Addington et al can then claim they were willing to testify. Congress is stonewalled for another two months and these crooks get two months closer to their post-2008 election Bush pardons. The big question is whether or not the Bush Administration can stretch this process out that far.

There is nothing "conservative" about "Conservatism." The term "conservative" is a misnomer bordering on the Orwellian. Theirs is the posture of a radical fringe group.
So-called "conservative" policies injure many and benefit few (i.e. themselves). Their philosophies are long on rhetoric and theories but short on practical solutions. "Conservatives" pursue an agenda that is disruptive, divisive and all too frequently extremely damaging to our way of life. On every conceivable crucial issue we now face, from global warming to the economy to health care, "Conservatism" suffers from a profound lack of vision.
What exactly is "conservative" about any of this? Not a damn thing.

Given the amount of potential confusion these WVWV mailers and robocalls cause, the question we should be asking is what demographic(s) this campaign targets.
