  • I am an American living in Japan (hi Charles!) and I had a great experience the other day that is relevent, sort of.

My grandfather, who is 92, and fought in World War II, is a big Obama supporter.

The other day I was talking politics with an 82 year old Japanese national who fought in the same war, on the other side. And he supports Obama, too.

  • Fabooj,

I (white female) identify as bisexual, and I support Obama. There are scads of LGBT supporter groups on mybarackobama.com. Your gay freinds who are lukewarm on Obama might be comforted by his "gay freinds in the red states" reference in the 2004 convention speech. I also liked the guts Obam showed regarding confronting homophobia in the black community in his speech at Ebeneezer Baptist Church.

  • hrebenddorf,
I enjoyed your "interesting conversation" post, and the comments are stellar as well.

Have to mention, however, that using "Clintonista" may scare away some Clinton supporters.

Call me PC police, I just can't help myself.

Also, I love your cat pretending to be a rabbit. Is there a story behind it?

P.S. What is a power ball?

  • Two of the best laugh lines:

"Because Alaska has too many polar bears."

And the last paragraph, with it's devastatingly accurate summary.

"Back to our core identity" indeed?!

  • I will be voting for Hillary not because she is woman but because previously when Bill Clinton was in the budget was balanced and deficit removed..also Hillary came forth with a good healthcare program which could have been helpful to us had it passed. Most important the foreign policy was stable and oriented towards peace. Hillary has shown she works in very bipartisan manner in congress...I always base my vote on actual proof not on who is the best orator...I am happy to see so many young people engaged in political process..about time....

  • I am an American living in Japan. When I looked at the info on wikipedia, it was August of 2007. I wasn't paying much attention to the news, and was not at the time in any way involved in politics. I looked at the wikipedia pages for the three frontrunners at the time, Clinton, Edwards and Obama.

Choosing Obama seemed obvious. I think it was a combination of his bio and his voting record. And a quote about how he came to the Christian church. I am an atheist, but the quote got me thinking, and I liked that. So I became an Obama supporter, and got more involved in politics, and started following the news alot more closely.

I have been really impressed with Obama's conduct throughout the campaign. I trust him to tell the American people the truth, even when it is difficult, and that is rare in a polititian.

I am puzzled by those who characterise him as a smooth talking car salesman, 'cause that is not my impression of Obama at all.

Thank you for all your work to make your son's future a more livable place.

Photographically speaking, the photos were also quite impressive.

    All the best.

  • Hillary could do some good things in the senate. I think more than half of the blame for her embarrassing performance has to do with her "handlers" trying to create a "brand."

There was a Republican analyst on NPR the other day talking openly about McCain's "brand" as a "maverick."

So odd to think of political canidates openly being packaged and advertised as if they were products.

But I do feel that this has happened to Hillary, and has been painful to watch. From overseas. If I were actually in the country, it might be even more horrific.
