Dershowitz Under Siege

user-pic

Alan Dershowitz is feeling the heat.

Last week, the Harvard Law professor agreed that Judge Richard Goldstone, author of the report on war crimes in Gaza, is a "moser," Hebrew term for a snitch. Historically (i.e., in the case of Yitzhak Rabin) the determination that a Jew is a "moser" means that his murder is religiously sanctioned.

Dershowitz writes today that he was unfamiliar with the term and that when he was asked if he considered Goldstone a "moser," he didn't know what he was agreeing to.

Dershowitz says that "moser" is an "inside baseball" term (he then added "an inside Israel term") with which he was not familiar.

A couple of problems. When it comes to Israel, there is no one more "inside baseball" than Alan Dershowitz who has written several best-selling book on Israel and its critics.

Dershowitz pleading ignorance on a subject relating to Israel because it is "inside baseball," is like Derek Jeter pleading ignorance on anything relating to baseball as "inside baseball."

Here is how I get my own personal knowledge of how well-known the term "moser" is in Jewish and Middle East circles.

For years, my buddy, Clay Swisher (who is 32 and not Jewish) has jokingly called people he doesn't like "mosers."

It's his joke based on the meaning of the term (he finds it hilarious) and the way it sounds (even more hilarious).

True, Clayton, now a top Al Jazeera reporter (and the author of the best book about the 2000 Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, "The Truth About Camp David") knows Middle East issues well, but unlike Dershowitz he did not go to a yeshiva for 12 years. The reason he knows the term is that he learned it at the time Rabin was assassinated when there were hundreds, of news stories explaining that labeling Rabin a "moser" was part of the set up for his assassination.

Yes, Clay is infinitely hipper than Dershowitz but, come on, if he knows a Hebrew term, Dersh knows it.

Dersh knew what he was doing. He needs to simply apologize, not only for seeming to justify the murder of Goldstone but for spending two decades smearing anyone who dares criticize policies of the government of Israel. And for being a living, walking anti-hasbara machine. Every time he shows up on television, Israel loses support. If he really cares about Israel, he would stick to his law books and leave Israel and estimable friends of Israel, like Justice Goldstone, alone.

Dershowitz's incurably ingrained immorality, reckless opportunism, towering hypocrisy and flagrant anti-Americanism are utterly unaffected by anything have to do with moser.

Dershowitz once again lets his hatred get the better of him. His comment on Goldstone and his weaselly ignorance defense are typical for him these days. You would think that a Professor at Harvard Law might be careful to not agree to terms which he doesn't understand, no?

user-pic

And be ignorant of the principle that claiming ignorance of the law is no excuse.

user-pic

The man is a media whore.

I can imagine more than one person is now trawling through Dershie media interviews / newspaper articles from the early 1990's looking for the word "moser".

I would also think it likely that Dershie has some poor bastard of a research assistant doing exactly the same thing.

Here's hoping....

How can murdering your own be religiously sanctioned? It doesn't make sense. Surely - and I'm no expert in theology - God alone can pass judgement on the taking of a life. Doesn't sanctioning a murder based on religious interpretation imply that there are areas that are out of God's jurisdiction?

Dersh's actions are appalling!

I don't know which is worse.
Dershowitz admitting he doesn't know what he's talking about or Dershowitz claiming "ignorance" to duck responsibility.

of course he is lying.

but why call someone you hate and want dead a term that could mean "I love you"?

after all he does claim he didnt know what it meant.

to paraphrase your idiocy: "The Moshe Dayan ordered some of his air force pilots to attack, launch missiles and strafe with cannon fire and try to sink the USS Liberty in June of 1967. Dozens of U.S. naval personnel died in that attack, near the shores of Tel-Aviv!"

user-pic

Shssssss. You'll go and give away the big secret, you idiot.

AFTER all, why does the Taliban do what it does? What on Earth induces their actions? Surely it must be the defacto apartheid practiced by the majority upon the minority, right? Yes, the majority side with all of it's standing armed forces, naval vessels and aircraft, high tech sophistication, it's "democracy", it's unparalleled culture and it's atomic weapons.

AFTER all, was it not "terrorists" which first established the United States of America, the state of Israel, tossed the colonial French out of Vietnam and caused so much heart burn for LBJ?

And AFTER all, it could not be the actions of the United States in this conflict which serves for motivation? Absolutely not. NO! Not at all. Why, the United States is half a world away, by God. Let's not fool ourselves here!

But I digress: back to Paris, back to you, Britney and back to the newest young buck on the block with the lowest low-hangers, right Arianna?

To quote from another website:

“The State of Israel will not be tried by its riches, army or techniques, but by its moral image and human values.”

During the blood-soaked Israeli siege of Beirut in 1982, an event which marked the decline of that rectitude and moral image, a wonderful Doonesbury cartoon depicted a press conference in which an anonymous voice asked an Israeli spokesman: “What has become of the Israel we knew and loved?” And the immediate rejoinder to the questioner? “Come off it, Yasser!” For in a sense, the lugubrious Arafat did adhere to Ben-Gurion’s myth-making. In the end, he even signed up for peace with the state which had already taken 78 per cent of the land he called home. He was a super-terrorist who became a super-statesman and then – after refusing to submit at the final Camp David meeting – became a super-terrorist again.
The truth is that Israel has destroyed many mosques, that the original Palestinian Arab victims of the 1947-8 war did not all flee, as Ben-Gurion suggested; many, like the doomed men and women of the Deir Yassin massacre, were murdered in their villages. The Israeli army, to some of us who have watched it in action, is a rabble, little different from the Arab armies of the Middle East. The numbers of civilian dead in the Gaza war were as much an outrage as the Sabra and Chatila massacre of 1982 when Israeli soldiers watched – quite literally – as the Lebanese militia they had sent into the refugee camps eviscerated the Palestinian civilians inside. Foreign journalists continue to prattle on about the supposed purity of Israel’s soldiers.

“Israel has already proved itself the most restrained nation in history. It has set an all-time record for restraint,” one Robert Fulford waffled in the Canadian National Post in January last year, at the height of the Gaza slaughter, when even Tzipi Livni admitted Israel’s soldiers had been allowed to “go wild”. Israel’s own rightist correspondents still portray the outside world as a dark, malevolent planet in which every criticism of Israel emerges from endemic anti-semitism, in which Nazism did not die in the embers of Berlin in 1945. The Jerusalem Post bashes the drum of racism almost daily. “Berlin Holocaust studies professor slammed for defending Nazi mentor.” “Weisenthal slams Ukraine award to nationalist linked to Nazis.”

“Dershowitz: Goldstone is a traitor to the Jewish people.”
