A TPMCafe post on the Senate floor
For those of you who don't always make it to the Editors Blog on the front page: Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) displayed a giant TPM posterboard on the Senate floor today, featuring a post from Cafe contributor Dean Baker.
Watch the clip below and see a screengrab here.

Kent Conrad is a prime example of why we need a revolution in this country.
He states that Social Security (or as he says is "Sosecurity") and Medicare are "cash negative". Well is that a fact? Do tell?
One question Senator Dumbshit: who pays for that? We all do. It's one of the few things that everyone pays in on and everyone gets some benefit from.
Now, answer me this Senator Dumbshit: is the Pentagon "cash negative" or is it cash positive? Cause if it isn't cash positive, then I think that's the very first place we ought to look to make absolutely God Damned sure that Social Security and Medicare are paid for cause I'm sick and fucking tired of paying for imperialist wars and a military industrial complex that threatens our national independence.

Get a clue, oleeb. There is no *obligation* to put the DoD into the budget.
It's nice you've personified the Pentagon by comparing it to the citizens of the country. Maybe you can tell the Supreme Court they left out government branches from their ruling today.
When you are taking in less than you are spending -- but promising to cover people whom you are taking from -- that's a cash negative situation.
Lest you have forgotten, SSN is supposed to be (in principle) a locked box and not part of the revenue stream gotten from taxes. Now whether it is, in fact, a locked box is besides the point. The point is that the system is a Ponzi scheme by design and you are waiting for it to crash (when there aren't enough people to support those who require the payouts).
PS You may be tired of imperialist wars, but I bet you enjoy the benefits of the cheap gas you put in your car. Why do you think we are in the Middle East anyway? Because we need the sand to support our silicon industry?
I'm not justifying the Iraq War in the least, but don't for a second think that your present lifestyle isn't made better, in part, by those institutions that you sanctimoniously want to sweep away.
You are a citizen of Rome. Enjoy it while it lasts.
