Israel Threatened To Hit West Bank Hard If Abbas Did Not Stop Goldstone Report

user-pic

Remember that amazing moment when President Abbas asked the United Nations to defer consideration of the Goldstone Report that found that Israel committed war crimes in Gaza.

Now we know why Abbas did it.

"The request by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the United Nations Human Rights Council last year to postpone the vote on the Goldstone report followed a particularly tense meeting with the head of the Shin Bet security service, Haaretz has learned. At the October meeting in Ramallah, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin told Abbas that if he did not ask for a deferral of the vote on the critical report on last year's military operation, Israel would turn the West Bank into a 'second Gaza.'

Diskin, who reports directly to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, threatened to revoke the easing of restrictions on movement within the West Bank that had been implemented earlier last year. He also said Israel would withdraw permission for mobile phone company Wataniya to operate in the Palestinian Authority. That would have cost the PA tens of millions of dollars in compensation payments to the company."

And the Israelis deny imposing collective punishment. But what else is it when you threaten to turn the peaceful West Bank into hell if its leader refused to condemn a report about crimes committed against fellow Palestinians?

So Israel's handling of Goldstone confirmed one of the key findings of Goldstone. Of course, Congress condemned Goldstone too. I wonder why? Surely it had nothing to do with threats to hold back on campaign contributions. No way. That doesn't happen!

The Israelis really got themselves a good one with Abbas, didn't they?

user-pic

Haven't you watched "The Sopranos"? The real question is whether Abbas cooks for Bibi too.

I do agree with all the ideas you have presented in your post. They’re very convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are very short for starters. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.by healthy families and child health plus

When the history of these times is written, the abject surrender of civilized, democratic values of law and justice by the free world to the Israel lobby, will be seen as an aberration not easily explicable.

That the United States government immediately caved-in to blackmail and meekly agreed to discredit an independent report of a UN Agency that indicated that the Israel state had authorized the commission of war crimes in Gaza - is an extraordinary action by a government supposedly representative of the will of 308 million Americans, a majority of whom claim to hold Christian beliefs.

There can be no erasure of this indelible stain upon the principles of democracy, justice and freedom.

user-pic

Nobody today buying the BS about "democracy, justice and freedom"

When the barbaric/primitive/low life Arabs will learn to LOVE their children more than they HATE the Jews. Then mabe then you will see "democracy, justice and freedom"

You can repeat your stupid mantras over and over again - It's only tired ppl !

user-pic

Yeah, and if the Jews in Germany in 1939 would have just loved their children more than their houses, money and property, maybe people like c9dw2rm8 wouldn't have had to stuff them into ovens.

Doesn't sound quite as convincing like that, does it?

user-pic

Well
I never saw The Berlin Jews blow up buses and airplanes ?

Doesn't sound quite as convincing like that, does it?

user-pic

I do believe that the Warsaw Jews got uppity enough about their prediciment to satisfy your criteria.

And the Warsaw Uprising does appear to be a much better analogy than yours, since that was an example of an ethnic group herded into a ghetto by an occupying power, and was then pummelled when they had the gumption to resist.

And if the Gazans are today's ghetto Jews when who do you think is currently starring in the role of "the wehrmacht"?

user-pic

The gazans are not Scandinavians !
This Arabs (I live with them for the last 20 years)
Are the most Violent/Primitive/Barbaric cult that I ever seen!!

The gazans will get what the deserved - they will eat what they cooked for themselves!!

I invite you to a one week luxury trip to Sderot ,Israel to see what your beloved Jihadists are doing !

user-pic

A nutcase says: "The gazans are not Scandinavians !"

My example dealt with Poles, who are (and this will come as a surprise to you, apparently) also not Scandinavians.

The rant continues: "This Arabs (I live with them for the last 20 years) Are the most Violent/Primitive/Barbaric cult that I ever seen!!"

Remind me again: who has herded whom into a vast open-air prison and then thrown away the key?

If you answered "the Arabs" then, so sorry, you would be one down with two to go.

Some more polemics: "The gazans will get what the deserved - they will eat what they cooked for themselves!!"

Let's see....
1) There are 1.5 million Gazans in the strip.
2) Even ISRAEL accepts that there are no more than 10,000 militants amongst that popln.

So, at best, 0.66% of the popln of Gaza "deserve what they are getting", yet it is 100% of the popln of Gaza who are "getting what they deserve".

I see a rather large discrepency in that equation; one that is SO large that I can't see any way of reconciling it.

You, of course, can square the circle without any problems at all, can't you?

user-pic

They couldn't make a profit blowing up buses and airplanes.

Is Daniel Pipes's website down today? Apparently, some people can think of no better way to celebrate MLK Day than to imitate Bull Connor.

RE: "...if the Jews in Germany in 1939 would have just loved their children more than their houses, money and property..." - Matt Jones
MY COMMENT: The notion that "Jews in Germany in 1939" loved their "houses, money and property" more than they "loved their children" is patently absurd! Personally, I find such an assertion to be quite offensive.
WIKIPEDIA: (excerpt) Hedi Epstein (née Wachenheimer, 15 August, 1924—) is an American political activist known for her support of the Palestinian cause through the International Solidarity Movement and for her background as a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany[1] Born in the Black Forest, she immigrated to the United States in 1948, and she currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri.[2] Epstein was born to a Jewish family in Freiburg, Germany, and in 1939 fled Nazi persecution via the Kindertransport to England. All but two of her family were killed at Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. During World War II she worked in munitions factories and joined a group of left-wing German Jewish refugees who hoped to re-introduce democracy in their homeland – "the foundation of my political education which still stands me in good stead today," she says. Some 60 years later, she was interviewed about this experience for the film Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport...

ALSO SEE: An interview with Hedy Epstein, By Silvia Cattori, 11/01/08
(EXCERPTS) Hedy Epstein, is a German Jewish Holocaust survivor, born in 1924, whose parents were sent to Auschwitz in 1942, where they perished. In 1948, Hedy Epstein went to live in United States. In 2003, she decided to make a trip to Palestine. Shocked by the oppression that the Israeli government is imposing on the Palestinians, she is, since then, devoting herself to make it known to the world. In the interview she gave to the Swiss journalist Silvia Cattori, Hedy Epstein speaks, with her gentle and mild voice, about her last travel to Palestine after a moving visit to one of several concentration camps to which her parents were deported. And she said: "I would like to dedicate this interview to the children of Gaza, whose parents cannot protect them or send them away to safety as my parents did when they sent me to England in May 1939 on a Kindertransport” (1)....
Silvia Cattori: Was the visit of Camp de Rivesaltes beneficial to you, since it made you closer to the soul of your beloved mother?
Hedy Epstein: I felt very close to my mother when I was there; I imagined how she moved around in the camp, what it was like for her. She was there from July to September 1942, a time when it is very hot. I remembered that my mother suffered from the summer heat when we were still living together in Kippenheim. It was very hot when I visited this camp. As so often in my life, I was reminded of the "unearned privileged" life I lead. Thanks to my parents' great unselfish love, I escaped what they had to endure. By sending me to England on a Kindertransport in May 1939, my parents literally gave me life a second time.
Silvia Cattori: It was a very moving visit for you, wasn't it? A come back to a very sad period of your life, away from your parents!
Hedy Epstein: Before I left Germany on a Kindertransport to England, my parents gave me many admonitions, to be good, to be honest, always ending with "We will see each other again soon." I believed that we would see each other again soon, whether my parents believed that, I will never know....
...Thinking back on that time in England, I was a very sad little girl, not allowing myself to really get in touch with my feelings and fears. As I told you, each of my parents in their last letters to me before their final deportation (to Auschwitz), each of them wrote: "It will probably be a long time before you hear from me again."
How long is a long time? A week, a month, a year, ten years! Since I wanted so very much to be reunited with my parents again, I kept on telling myself: "A long time is not over yet, I have to wait some more". I was in denial. I was not able to accept the inevitable, my parents' demise. That was really a psychological game I played with myself, it was a way for me to survive, a self-preservation mechanism.
It was not until September 1980, when I visited Auschwitz and stood on the place, called "Die Rampe" (The ramp), where the cattle cars arrived in the 1940s, the people were forced to get out and Dr. Mengele and his cohorts made a selection as to who will live and who will die (in the gas chambers), that I was able to accept the fact that my parents and other family members did not survive. That is a very long time to be in denial. Perhaps the denial was in lieu of the usual mourning process.

It's long past time that we look closer to home at our own complicity in the actions of Israel. In many ways, we Americans are exacerbating the situation.

This pressure on Abbas from Diskin was a crude, if empty threat; the Obama administration's actions were key to his waffling. Why should their policies in action be politely ignored? Because this crap is being perpetuated by a Democratic administration?

We also contributed $32million towards funding the US Army Corps of Engineers designed "Egyptian" undergound steel wall project to further seal the tunnels into Gaza. In addition, we have allegedly installed and monitor hightech sensors of activity there.

We are doing our part in tightening the seige and administering collective punishments.

And now comes word of how this administration bent to the whining of bibi that his coalition with Shas would fall apart unless we play our part in a charade of "concern" over building in Jerusalem:

The story behind the recent announcement of 700 new housing units in Jerusalem does not paint a pretty picture for future construction in new Jerusalem neighborhoods. The new units are a result of strong pressure and even threats by coalition partner Shas, a request by Prime Minister Netanyahu to the U.S., one-time permission for a precise amount of housing units, and a coordinated, weak condemnation.

The information comes from an unnamed senior source in the Prime Minister’s Bureau and sources close to Housing Minister Ariel Attias, reports correspondent Haggai Huberman.

.........

Sources close to Attias said that he [bibi] was motivated by fears that he would be severely criticized by Shas supporters. They added that because of the ultimatum Attias issued Netanyahu, the Prime Minister agreed to issue the housing tenders – but said that they must be coordinated with the Americans.
........

The PM’s bureau source said that the numbers were determined in coordination with the Obama Administration, after Netanyahu explained that he must find a way to appease the nationalist and Shas camps regarding the freeze in Judea and Samaria.

.........

Immediately following the announcement of the tenders, the U.S. government publicized a condemnation of sorts, stating that the US objects to new Israeli construction in eastern Jerusalem and that Jerusalem’s final status must be resolved via bilateral negotiations with the support of the international community.

PM’s Bureau source said that both the tender announcement and the condemnation were timed to coincide with the Christmas vacation, so that neither would receive much attention.

It's far too easy to blame Israel while ignoring our own part in the bloody mess in the Middle East. Unless we address what is being done in our name, it will only get worse for everyone concerned, Israel included.

Now we know why Abbas did it.

Now? The evil Juice made him do it. That always seems to be the "answer." What took so long?
