IDF Moves Battle to Twitter and Facebook

user-pic

This is pretty amusing.

The Israeli Defense Forces will now be pushing the official Israeli line on Facebook and Twitter. I guess it understands that its unofficial defenders (often trolls) on the web run heavily toward bigots and ethnic triumphalists who do Israel's cause infinitely more harm than good.

But Israel needs to understand one thing. Thinking folks -- especially the young and especially on the web -- do not trust official sources and especially official military sources. Perhaps before Vietnam, Americans believed the Pentagon. But who does now?

Two words: Pat Tillman. And that is one of a million examples. I mean, imagine winning an argument about Afghanistan or Iraq by quoting the Pentagon! It's laughable.

So, if we don't trust our own official military sources, why would we trust Israel's. Answer: we won't.

The IDF is wasting its money. Better it should spend its resources not on defending its modus operandi, but in changing it.

The Israeli government understands that the blogosophere (with the exception of the crazy right and a tiny army of trolls and Israel firsters) does not buy its line. And that is a good thing. After all, not many Israelis do either.

Next up: an IDF bureaucracy to counter Jon Stewart?

Vietnam is a long time ago.

There are Obamabots arguing that we should trust Obama's decisions on Afghanistan because he has more information than we do! Presumptively this information comes from military and spy sources. If they stated directly that they are trusting the Pentagon they might see the problem but put this way they buy it.

Obama himself is somewhat post Vietnam -- he certainly never got the Sixties.

I think it's a great idea. But, then again, I'm pro-Palestinian.

MJ: You've had some great, recent posts here (and on other sites). Keep up the good work!

In all this is a disturbing thought for me. Israel is home to advanced computer science techies. When will they start jamming computers that access information that is considered detrimental to the IDF or the state of Israel by some whacked out Zionist.

ANSWER: [sound of pin dropping]

P.S. That's why they 'leak' to (or on) supposedly respectable journalists and co-opt supposedly impartial "military analysts" on the television machine.

Facebook

This is crazy, I can't believe they are doing this to the people. In some countries, facebook are banned or blocked because the government doesn't allow freedom of speech.
