Bibi: Rahm and Axelrod Are Self-Hating Jews!
From today's Ha'aretz: "Netanyahu appears to be suffering from confusion and paranoia. He is convinced that the media are after him, that his aides are leaking information against him and that the American administration wants him out of office. Two months after his visit to Washington, he is still finding it difficult to communicate normally with the White House. To appreciate the depth of his paranoia, it is enough to hear how he refers to Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod, Obama's senior aides: as "self-hating Jews."
Apparently, the pressure from the United States is getting to Bibi. I guess he got used to the idea of an Elliot Abrams who, while working in the White House, sabotaged every Bush policy he could on behalf of the Greater Israel concept. He literally called the Israelis and told them not to pay attention to Secretary of State Colin Powell when the General went to the region to promote an Israeli-Palestinian agreement.
Powell worked his tail off to get the Israelis to agree to a ceasefire with the Palestinians only to discover later that Abrams had already given the prime minister the heads up: don't listen to Powell. He doesn't speak for the administration.
And then there was Perle and Feith and Wurmser and Bolton and a slew of other Greater Israel boys who proudly used their positions to ensure that Israel would keep the West Bank forever.
And now they are gone, discredited, never to return.
It's a new day. Whether or not Rahm or Axelrod are "self-hating Jews" is irrelevant. Who cares? They are top aides to the President of the United States. And their loyalty is to him -- not to mention their country.
Praise the Lord.

Is it possible for one to be a self-hating Baptist? Or how about a self-hating Methodist?
How does one go about becoming a self-hating Jew?
Is one born that way? Is it in the genes? Is it learned?
Can one convert and become a non-self-hating Jew?
If what Netanyahu says is true, is Rahm Emanuel aware that he's a self-hating Jew? Is Axelrod?
If you are a non-self-hating Jew does that mean you are what is referred to as a "neocon"?
What is the percentage of self hating Jews in the world?
What does it actually mean to be a self-hating Jew? Please give details.

Woody Allen said: "I hate myself, but not because I'm Jewish."
I say: "No, I don't hate myself. It's Jews like you [the ones who call types like me SHJ's] that I hate."

No, MJ: Obama has shut the "secret agreement" window and it's really pissing of Netanyahu. Imagine: An American president who means what he says. The horror. The horror.

A persistent critic just sent me this lovely definition:
you mj are the definition of selfhating jews. you write, are widely circulated, and put out the false impression that jews are divided on israel when we are not. and why do you do it. to ingratiate yourself with the goyim. that is the definition of selfhating jew. look in the mirror.
Ha! He (or she) got me. Now I have to find some WASPS to hang out with. The "goyim" in my family tend to be Catholics or of Catholic background and I'm already pretty ingratiated with them, some being very very close relatives! I don't think Catholics count anyway. I mean, those interested in ingratiating prefer Episcopalians and the like.

Well, at least he didn't say that you were trying to "pass" as a Goy.
Funny story: At my father-in-law's 80th birthday, my wife's best friend Karen, an nice Jewish girl from Wisconsin, spoke to all my father-in-law's Palestinian friends about how much she felt like family. So mushy and weepy.
I wish I had video to share with your critics. It would be their worst nightmare: Stereotypes dying.....

I know the feeling. A 22 year old Palestinian kid (from Hebron) spoke at my dad's memorial service.
My dad, a Jew born in Pennsylvania in 1915, was eulogized by a Pal Muslim born in Hebron in 1985.

Theological Speculation : it may be impossible to be a self-hating Presbyterian.
A person who considers him/herself 'saved' already must be pretty pleased with him/herself in the religion column. Pretty good deal, huh ?
Are there any Calvinists in the house ? Any theologians ?

/raises hand....
Born and raised in good ol' Middle America Calvinist Protestant tradition, and it was pretty common teaching in the churches of my youth that we were all miserable sinners and all of our motives and attitudes were worthy of automatic dismissal, even by ourselves.
Therapy helps.
Calvin was a pip. A cheerless scold. So, while that's not the same sort of self-loathing that is ascribed to Rahm, it's pretty darn close.
Any Catholics want to chime in? I hear there's a lot of guilt that comes with communion there, too, isn't there?

People who disagree with Israel fall into two camps 'Anti-Semitic' or self-hating Jew'. Branding is a very powerful tool, they've demonized people who disagree with Israeli and American/Israeli policies.
What is quite disconcerting is that Israel and anyone connected to Israel believes that American Government officials that are Jewish owe it to Israel ahead of American Interests.
Is Rahm Emanuel a'self-hating Jew'?

RE: People who disagree with Israel fall into two camps 'Anti-Semitic' or self-hating Jew'.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE "self-hating Jews":
Jacobo Timerman (Jan 6, 1923 – Nov 11, 1999) publisher, journalist, and author.
FROM MOLLY IVINS: (excerpt)...Timerman arrived shortly before Israel's war against Lebanon, which culminated in the hideous massacres of civilians at Sabra and Shatila. Of course, Timerman spoke out against the atrocities and wrote a scathing book, "The Longest War." He also wrote, with his usual piercing vigor, against the Israeli torture of Palestinians. Naturally, this made Timerman, the lifelong Zionist, highly unpopular in Israel. He left the country.
Timerman also had a cameo role in American politics. The pro-Israeli magazine The New Republic attacked him for "The Longest War," and even before he went to Israel, the neo-conservative intellectuals, in a most despicable episode, tried to destroy his reputation. Christopher Hitchens of The Nation once heard Irving Kristol, editor of the right-wing Commentary, say that Timerman had made up the entire story of his imprisonment and torture — that it had never happened...
ENTIRE IVINS TRIBUTE - http://www.creators.com/opinion/molly-ivins/molly-ivins-november-14-1999-11-14.html
***PS. Timerman opined in "The Longest War" that WWIII would probably be precipitated by the use of an inappropriate analogy.

For a comment to resonate with the public, the latter must already share some of the perceptions of the commenter. In this case, accusing Emanuel or Axelrod of self-hatred is simply likely to cause laughter, except among those congenitally deficient in a sense of humor.
It sounds like Ha'aretz is already laughing. Or at least snickering.

What's the opposite of self-hate? Self-love. Too much self-love leads to narcissism:
A pattern of traits and behaviors which signify infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of all others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition.
//
So, it would appear Bibi and the Zionists are into full-blown Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Characterized by:
//
An all-pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behaviour), need for admiration or adulation and lack of empathy, usually beginning by early adulthood and present in various contexts. Five (or more) of the following criteria must be met:
Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion
Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions)
Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (narcissistic supply)
Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favorable priority treatment. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her expectations
Is "interpersonally exploitative", i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends
Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others
Constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her
Arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted

A self-hating Jew is one who deviates from the tenet that non-Jews are not treated the same as Jews.
If you don't always side with a Jew in a dispute with a Gentile, you are a self-hating Jew.

"The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been beneficial for Israel.
'We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq,' Ma'ariv quoted the former prime minister as saying. He reportedly added that these events 'swung American public opinion in our favor.'"

The whole thing is a variant of the "no true Scotsman" trope. McGregor reads an account of a nasty murder that took place in England and says "No Scotsman could do such a thing." Next day he reads a report of an identical crime carried out in Aberdeen. His response: "No true Scotsman could do such a thing." Similarly, no true (=non-self-hating) Jew is prepared to give up the occupied territories.

The first time I heard the charge of 'self hating Jew' being used was by some Kahane supporters demonstrating against William Kunstler a few decades back. His response was (to paraphrase) 'how could that be true, all my friends know that I am in love with myself'. That was funny. I did not expect to see the charge used again. Anyway as we all should know is that the ultraright lacks not only a sense of irony but also any sense humor.

I wouldn't mind being a "self-hating Jew" myself. I think they're de rigueur (peachy keen). I'm nominally a Protestant right now, but I am also a member of Tikkun/NSP. Does that qualify as a "self-hating Jew"? If not, how does one convert from Protestant to "self-hating Jew"? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

It takes a certain warped mind to compare the removal of illegal settlements, established through blatant and intentional disregard of international law, as part of a conscious campaign for ethnic cleansing ("maximum land with minimum Arabs"), to the Nazi attempt to exterminate European Jews.
But don't blame Netanyahu. Warped mind, thy name is Zionism. After all, it wasn't long ago that a certain hackademic who shall remain nameless described the defeat of the Zionists in the UCU as the outcome of a campaign to make the UCU "free of Jews." And if you go and google 'Judenrein', you will note that the rabid Jewish right has been using this term to describe the anti-colonial struggle in the OPT for a very long time.
This is what I love about Netanyahu. He is irrepressibly icky. All the foul, nauseating, self-righteous self-pity that has been festering in the Zionist psyche but kept firmly in check by pragmatic "labour" leaders from Ben Gurion to Peres, at least in international settings, is now gushing out, officially given voice by an Israeli PM who wears his necrotic heart on his sleave. Perhaps that is because in Netanyahu, the personal and the politcal are one, the humiliation experienced by Jewish identity as it was steamrolled by European modernity, out of which Zionism was born, is mutually amplified by Netanyahu's family's own humiliation at the hand of the labor regime in Israel, which he has never forgiven. Humiliation, resentment and lashing out in revenge are the core elements of the Netanyahu universe and one of the keys to his political appeal in an electorate saturated with humiliations. He is the thus the perfect foil for Obama's politics of ostensibly humiliating him/Israel, which he can only experience as deja vu all over again, just as every mild criticism of its actions or call for restraint is experienced by Israel and its supporters as a new "Auschwitz". Netanyahu is the surfeit of the Zionist death drive, a talking wound with a one word repertoire: "Nazi. Nazi. Nazi. Nazi. Nazi. Nazi..." Ad nauseam.

...a talking wound
excellent image! netanyahu and his compadres are a talking wound that refuse to let the wound heal so that it can be exploited for political purposes. when the international community makes any demands of israel, the band-aid is removed and the wound is shown as a response.
