So, how are these guys different from Lester Maddox, George Wallace or Strom Thurmond?

I must say, all these American Likudniks are really starting to give me a sinking feeling about the future of Israel. They really seem intent on putting Israel's continued existence in doubt.
If they keep this up, what it'll come down to is that serious peace talks will come too late. The Arabs will end up getting a clue, and go the Gandhi route.
You can see it now. They'll say one person, one vote. The power of that idea will destroy Israel, and people like Senator Schumer will have only themselves to blame.

The people who fund the settler types also fund the DSCC and give Schumer a lot of clout.

Exactly. He is far from stupid, one of the shrewdest politician around. Don't forget Schumer's Wall St clout as well.
